End of Year Report to the Community

Requests for Applications Opening Soon!
Pocono Mountains United Way will be accepting applications for funding from nonprofit organizations serving Monroe County beginning January 1, 2022. Requests will be considered for the implementation of specific and targeted programs that align with Pocono Mountains United Way's Priority Needs and which are targeted to serve the population known as ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed). It's not too late!! Don't miss the Belvin Family Christmas Light Show! This free light show, located at 464 Cherry Lane Rd, East Stroudsburg, PA (Pocono Township) can be seen nightly thru Jan 1. Thank you to the Belvin Family for once again supporting our community with this amazing display! 100% of all donations raised will be donated to United Way!

Hospitality and Restaurant Worker Relief Fund
We re-launched the Hospitality and Restaurant Worker Relief Fund to support hospitality and restaurant staff living and/or working in Wayne, Pike, Monroe, and Carbon Counties. The fund will provide cash assistance ranging from $250 to a maximum of $1,000. Applications can be submitted at https://poconounitedway.org/hrworker-relief-fund/ and funding will be provided on a first come, first served basis.

Vaccine Outreach
Our COVID-19 Trauma Informed Vaccine Outreach program, funded through the Temple University Health and Human Services and Health Resources and Services Administration grant, wrapped up the project in November 2021. The team engaged with over 2,500 individuals through virtual and in-person outreach, listening sessions, focus groups and at vaccine sites in the community. We could not have done this without the support of our partners St. Luke’s University Health Network, Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau, Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce and the work of our four amazing vaccine outreach staff members!

VITA Volunteers Needed
Our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program will once again be offered in 2022.
You can help by volunteering as a VITA preparer for the 2022 tax season. Schedules are flexible and all training is provided. To apply to become a volunteer tax preparer, please contact Lucas@PoconoUnitedWay.org.

Thank you to Greater Pocono Chamber of Commerce for awarding Pocono Mountains United Way with the Frank Scholech Community Award of 2021 in recognition of our work in the community. We are grateful for the acknowledgment and will continue to be good stewards of the trust that the community places in our organization!

If you plan to give a donation every year but don’t expect to be over the standard annual deduction amount of $12,550/individual or $25,100/couple, consider combining several years’ worth of giving into a single year. You may be able to save more in taxes by itemizing this year and then taking the standard deduction in subsequent years. Let’s say you plan to give $3,000 in each of the next three years. Bunching these gifts into a single year may put you over the threshold to itemize.
