PNA MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Bucks County NEWS. EVENTS. LIFE: Reimagined on your device

Local news is most powerful when it feels personal — now, it’s closer to home than ever before. This past April, the Bucks County Herald launched a brand-new app designed to bring everything readers love about the Herald straight to their phones anytime, anywhere.

BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) — the $1.5B rights organization behind songwriter licensing — is working on a licensing platform as a solution that would help news publishers get compensated when AI platforms use their content.

This is part of an early-stage effort to design a platform that works for publishers and AI companies — and ensures local and regional voices aren’t left behind. We’re asking publishers to complete a short 3-minute survey to share how they’re thinking about this issue, what concerns they have, and what participation should look like.

Please fill out the survey to help give Pennsylvania publishers a voice in shaping this new platform. Your input will directly inform the structure, timing, and business model behind. Take the survey here.

Brian Nelson launched a broadcast-inspired classwide show in the fifth grade, when he said he was “quite the talker.” This summer, Nelson and Tobier are interns at The Local, with their bylines appearing throughout its pages over the past several weeks. Brian Nelson is also one of 11 participants in PNA’s inaugural newsroom internship program.
