Resource Center
In August, the Resource Center journeyed through America and around the world with a focus on stories and journeys about the spaces, places and lives of others.

Both a heart-racing adventure and an uplifting quest, Walking the Bible presents one man’s epic journey- by foot, jeep, rowboat, and camel- through the greatest stories ever told. From crossing the Red Sea to climbing Mount Sinai to touching the burning bush, Bruce Feiler's inspiring odyssey will forever change your view of history’s most legendary events. This is available in hard copy, audiobook, and  eBook.

In America's Holy Ground: 60 Faithful Reflections on Our National Parks, dive deeper into a unique aspect of each park, from Acadia to Zion, and reframe how you think about the parks and your faith. Connections, sabbath, reflection, perspective, beginnings, art, restoration - these are just a few of the themes you'll encounter on your national park journey. A trio of questions with each entry will help you see the bigger picture of your life and new ways to approach your relationship with God, your community, and your faith. Whether you're on the road or at home in your reading nook, think about your favorite national park in a whole new way! This is available in hard copy

Bestselling author Brian D. McLaren followed his love of nature (specifically, tortoises) all the way to the Galapagos Islands. There, he paid close attention to the flora and fauna around him but also to what was happening within him, how the natural world awakened his soul in a way that organized religion could not. In The Galapagos Islands, A Spiritual Journey, McLaren's descriptions of birds and reptiles, fish and flowers sing; he walks in the footsteps of Charles Darwin and grieves that Darwin has been demonized by his fellow Christians; and he reflects on how his own faith has evolved in the years since he left the pastorate.
McLaren writes in the spirit of Aldo Leopold and Wendell Berry, weaving together the spiritual and the material. Even though most readers will never visit the Galapagos Islands, they can travel with McLaren and experience the beauty and fragility of this extraordinary place. This is available in hard copy

Kathleen Norris invites readers to experience rich moments of prayer and presence in Dakota, a timeless tribute to a place in the American landscape that is at once desolate and sublime, harsh and forgiving, steeped in history and myth. In thoughtful, discerning prose, she explores how we come to inhabit the world we see, and how that world also inhabits us. Her voice is a steady assurance that we can, and do, chart our spiritual geography wherever we go. Check out the  book, the  eBook, or the  Audiobook from the Resource Center today.

The Peace of Christ Belongs to Everyone
Your gift to the Peace & Global Witness Offering enables the church to promote the Peace of Christ . Your congregation is encouraged to utilize up to 25% of this Offering to connect with the global witness of Christ's peace. Mid councils retain an additional 25% for ministries of peace and reconciliation.

The remaining 50% is used by the Presbyterian Mission Agency to advocate for peace and justice in cultures of violence, including our own, through collaborative projects of education and Christian witness. This offering is your opportunity to support our global siblings and International Peacemakers in addressing systems of conflict and injustice all around the world.

The Good News
Topeka FPC Breakthrough Prayer
The First Presbyterian Church of Topeka -- took their learnings from PNK Education Day home and went to work right away!

Topeka First appreciated the opportunity to learn about the Breakthrough Prayer Initiative at the recent PNK Education Day in Salina. Sandra Brown, Jerry Foster, John Gould, Walt Menninger, and Pat Yancey (faithful driver of the church van) all drove out and attended together. The very next Monday, they got together and reviewed what they had learned. Then they met again a week later and crafted a brand-new breakthrough prayer, which they introduced to the session that evening (they were excited that Melanie Hancock was there to hear it, too). Their new prayer--which will be included at every meeting, every gathering, every worship service, and replaces their current "4pm prayer"--goes like this:

Lord, like the light breaking through our windows, break through our resistance to change, show us the new things you want to do through First Presbyterian Church, and empower us to embrace new opportunities. Amen.
Please contact the Presbytery Office with any joys or concerns you would like to have added to the PNK Prayer List.
