Celebrating God's Work in PNK

Westminster Presbyterian Church Celebrates Completion of Their New Youth Room

Feb 8th was truly a day to celebrate. The WPC youth participated in worship service, and then marched the congregation up the stairs (or onto the elevator) to welcome everyone to their new YOUTH ROOM. Creating and updating this space was a long process. It was a great day to officially dedicate it, and to thank the many individuals who worked so hard to make it happen. Foosball and cake were part of the celebration!

Upcoming Events

A Jonah Workshop for Preachers

Wondering what those four chapters of Jonah might say to your congregation? Join us for this workshop with Anna Carter Florence and Jake Myers from Columbia Theological Seminary, as we explore the book of Jonah together. We’ll discover some new strategies for reading Scripture that are easy to grasp and easy to adapt to your context. We’ll move from text to sermon, as we consider what the familiar stories might have to say to us.

This workshop is hosted by the Presbytery of Southern Kansas, and PNKS is welcome to join! This workshop will be April 17-18, 2026 at First Presbyterian Church Hutchinson. Find out more and register here: https://www.pbysk.org/post/a-jonah-workshop-for-preachers

Advanced Reformed Worship Course Offered

The PNK Lay Ministry Training Program is offering an Advanced Reformed Worship Course as part of the Commissioned Lay Pastor (CLP) pathway this spring.

This seven-session course, running from March 11 through May 13, is designed especially for those currently enrolled in the CLP program and for graduates of the APS program who wish to continue their education—reserved spots are available for both groups.

Those interested in beginning the CLP program are encouraged to contact the PNK office at office@pnks.org to secure a place. Clerks of Session, Session members, deacons, and other congregational leaders are also welcome to register; if additional space is available, participants will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. All participants are expected to fully engage in the course and complete required assignments. The cost for the course is $300.

Join OPSF at the rolling pastoral acres of Cedar Valley for a time focused on our wellness with Joe Davis.

Nationally touring artist, author, and activator of joy Joe Davis will guide pastoral leaders through his signature method of communal practices that integrate journaling, mindful movement, and creativity. Joe’s work is rooted in the belief that joy is not merely an emotion but a spiritual practice—one that sustains us in challenging seasons and reconnects us to the sacredness of our own stories.

Our Connectional Church

Are you an educator, volunteer, pastor, or commissioned pastor (CRE, CLP), that serves as a leader in a small church (less than 100 members)? Are you a mid-council leader who supports faith formation leaders in small churches?  You are invited to register for this Community Circle (Hosted by PC(USA) Office of Christian Formation), designed especially for those leaders in small churches.

Offered several times through the year, you may come to every gathering, or when you can, but come to share in conversation and learn, ask questions, receive and share resources for ministry, and support one another. A 90-minute Zoom gathering, the times and days vary so there is flexibility of participation. Register once but register anytime. Each gathering will feature a question or topic just to get the conversation going related to Faith Formation leadership in small churches, then the discussion can go from there. So come ready to participate in the conversation.

The conversation facilitator will be Sandy Safford, Faith Formation leader for close to 30 years and a Commission-ready Lay Pastor who served as pastor for a small rural congregation in Colorado for 10 years. She is also a consultant, retreat facilitator, and trained coach who loves the outdoors as well as collecting ideas with colleagues for wonder and imagination in ministry.

The next gathering is April 16th, 2026. Click here to register and for more information: https://cfportal.churchcenter.com/registrations/events/2804142

In Case You Missed It

Rev. Ben Houchen Installed at FPC Hays

The Installation Celebration for Rev. Benjamin “Ben” Houchen was a beautiful service that mixed in all of the traits of the First Presbyterian Church of Hays, KS.

Traits of family, love, faith, acceptance, kindness, and neighborhood, to name a few. FPC Hays is embarking on a new and exciting adventure with St. Michael’s Episcopal Church and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, both of Hays.

Although each church will keep and nurture our faith based services, the collaborative projects our congregations will do together will ensure our strength in our respective churches and in our community.

We appreciate the guests that joined the celebration. Many locals and many who traveled from out of town. It was a service that filled our hearts!

All are welcome! Sundays at 9:00 AM for weekly service, with opportunities throughout the week to get involved and serve our community.
