Session 5 - Suicide Part I: Speaking Into the Silence

May 18, 2021
1:30 – 3:00 PM
Webinar via Zoom

After having identified life circumstances and warning signs to listen and watch for, we will develop our ability to respond to those who come to us with suicidal ideation. Together, we will examine selected vignettes to increase our comfort with asking and responding to a person’s suicidal ideation. We will also develop a “take home toolkit” that identifies both local and national resources to speak both toward suicide prevention as well as explore how to respond in the wake of a completed suicide.

Registration is open on the websites of Missouri Union and Northern Kansas Presbyteries.
Session Report Review has been Launched
After a 14 month-long pandemic delay, the Session Report Review (SRR) has been launched. Early in May information was sent to the moderators and clerks of session of our 59 churches for the review of 2019 and 2020 session minutes. As in past years, SRR will begin with each clerk reviewing their session minutes using a checklist. The four area gatherings of clerks reviewing each other’s minutes have been eliminated for this year. Clerks are encouraged to invite another knowledgeable person to sit down with them, their session minutes, church register and checklists and go over the checklists. While this is not required, it is encouraged that clerks of session take this extra step inviting the assistance of their pastor or other moderator of their session, another elder in their congregation, or the clerk of session of neighboring church in the presbytery.

The Clerks’ Reports & Review Committee (CR&RC) will be scheduling small group electronic gatherings for clerks to report on their reviews and share insights. A response form is included with the information sent to clerks to provide information to help in scheduling the small groups.

Clerks are encouraged to contact the stated clerk Bob Frasier ([email protected] / 785-479-6308) if they need assistance or have questions.

The stated clerk’s report to the October presbytery meeting will include a listing of sessions whose records have been reviewed and those that have not. The report will not note any exceptions that have been noted.

Covid-19 Update #4
Tuesday, May 25th
At Noon via Zoom

Back due to popular demand!  We are hosting a 4th webinar with Dr. Lisa Allgood. Lisa is Executive Presbyter in Cincinnati Presbytery and an immunologist for nearly 4 decades.

Lisa has been bringing wisdom and expertise and practical advice to the Mid-Council (synod and presbytery) Leaders of our denomination for this past year. The intersectionality of her skills and experience offer great benefits and wisdom for us today. We wanted to provide you a space to hear from her and ask her questions. We hope you attend.

It includes the work camp, fun activities at Heartland Center, and a one-day visit to Worlds of Fun. Youth who have completed fifth grade through those who have completed twelfth grade are eligible to participate. We also need adult volunteers to accompany our Presbytery leaders on the trip.

The cost per youth is $255. The Presbytery will pay one-third of each youth’s fee ($85). We encourage churches that are able to pay one-third of the fee, as well ($85).

Please find the registration form and liability release below. All materials, including payment, must be received by June 15th.
2021 Summer Camp at Heartland
The Youth Ministries Committee REPORTS that Summer Church Camp at HPC is a go for Summer 2021!! HPC has created excellent guidelines for Covid-19 safety precautions and camp sessions are filling up with campers of all ages throughout the summer.

Go to http://www.heartlandcenter.org/ for more information and/or to register!

Don’t forget:  All children/youth active in the programs of any PNK church are automatically eligible for a PNK scholarship in the amount of 1/3 of the registration fee for any one camp session. We encourage congregations to provide a 1/3 scholarship, too, if they can, and that leaves the remaining 1/3 for the family to pay.

Come to The Gathering!

May 25, 2021 - 2:00-3:30 pm CT
May 27, 2021 - 6:00-7:30 pm CT
We have a great conference planned for those who will be able to join us in person as well as those who will be participating virtually. You can register for the attendance option that works best for you.

We will be together September 13th - 15th, 2021 in Cincinnati, OH and online live on those dates.

In-person attendees can choose from over 20 workshops, in addition to our plenary sessions and worship programs. Virtual attendees will join us for plenary sessions, four workshops selected to provide a strong foundation in best stewardship practices, and both of our worship programs.

If you plan to attend in person, we offer group pricing that will allow more people from your congregation to attend together, learn together, and take home tools for expanding generosity.

And right now you can take advantage of early bird pricing for both attendance options!

PC(USA) scholarships are available - click here for more information. The Presbytery's Stewardship and Mission Committee encourages pastors to apply for a PC(USA) scholarship which will cover up to 50% of the total cost.

Lay leaders are invited to email Melanie Hancock in the Presbytery office at [email protected] to inquire about PNK scholarships available in the amount of $100 for virtual attendance (full cost of the event) or $200 for in-person attendance. There are a limited number of scholarships and they will be awarded on a first-come first-served basis.

We will be observing recommended COVID safety protocols for in-person attendees and will provide details for what to expect as we get closer to the conference.
