PDA Documentary on Amazon Prime

The most recent documentary from Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is called  "Evicting the American Dream" and is now available on Amazon Prime. In a compelling way, this film amplifies the voices and stories of children and families confronting eviction and homelessness. Through interviews with pediatric psychologists, social workers, tenant rights organizations, housing authority officials, and eviction lawyers, this film explores the root causes and systemic issues that perpetuate this epidemic and ways in which it is preventable. 

This 51-minute long film would make a great film for showing and discussion in your congregation and/or community. Let us know if you have a showing or discussion!

Celebrating God's Work in PNK

"The 1867 Social Club was born out of the idea that it is hard to find and make friends in a small town. Friends are important to mental health especially as we age."

In September, 2025 The PNKS Mission Ministry Team approved a Mission Project Grant in the amount of $2866 to support the First Presbyterian Church - Oskaloosa and the opening of the 1867 Social Club. The purpose of this project is to build community, and specifically to provide a place for connection and friendship. Initially, events will be planned once per week from 4-6pm at 101 Jefferson St. in Oskaloosa.

Church members have been working on preparing the building with a new paint job, cleanup and lawn clean-up and repair and other projects. The Grand Opening was held on October 16th with perfect weather and music by the Sunflower Trio. Church and community members enjoyed food and fellowship - just as the project was intended!

We are so pleased and proud of the work by the small and mighty team at FPC Oskaloosa. If you're in the neighborhood, events through the holiday have been scheduled and can be found on the 1867 Social Club Facebook Group.

Synod of Mid-America Higher Education Scholarships for 2025-2026

Congrats to the 8 youth in PNKS who received 2025 Higher Education Scholarships from the Synod of Mid-America!  These scholarships can be used for any accredited institution of higher learning (including seminaries, trade schools and graduate study programs). Scholarships are awarded per school year and renewable with an annual application.

These scholarships are open to active Presbyterians within the Synod of Mid-America, and whose church of membership qualified as a “small church” - which in Kansas is churches with a total congregational Membership of 100 members or less.

The applicants were judged on financial need, academic achievement, and involvement in the local church, school, and community. All scholarship applicants were endorsed with a letter of support from their Clerk of Session or Pastor.

In Case You Missed It

Sunday, October 12th was the installation of the Rev. Nathaniel Hood at First Presbyterian Church Junction City. 

The installation commission consisted of moderator Ken Weaver, Reverend Phil Price, Reverend Bob Frasier, Linda Brungardt PNC chair and member of Junction City First and General Presbyter Melanie Hancock. 

The sermon was preached by the Rev. Dr. Douglas Hood, Nate’s father. It was a glorious day!!
