This week, I explored the Olympic National Forest - 628,115 acres of lush trails, lakes, mountains, rivers, wildlife, a massive rainforest, beaches, hot springs and waterfalls... lots of waterfalls. I have hiked on the peninsula in years prior; however never have I had an experience like this. We all know the weather in the PNW can be unpredictable so planning outdoor photoshoots can be a little challenging and as you can imagine, there was rain on the forecast. Probably the worst case scenario for a professional videographer, but we decided to go anyway! We nailed it. The weather was outstanding and we were able to hike 3 trails in 2 days! The first trail was Marymere Falls, followed by Mount Storm King - an incredibly steep hike where you use ropes at the top to climb to the summit. The views overlooking Lake Crescent were breathtaking and it was fun to see how the moody clouds created the ideal setting for his vision. We stayed in a cabin right on the ocean and spent every moment capturing the Pacific Northwest scenery. The next morning we hiked to Sol Duc Falls, a waterfall that cascades sideways, like nothing I had ever seen. There are hot springs, several trails to explore and an abundance of moss. The Olympics are magical. It is like going to another country where you are completely off the grid, yet surrounded by beauty. A perfect place to create art. To think and explore. A perfect place to call home. | |
