MEET TAYLOR
"Homeownership, Goal, & Rachels “Top of Mind” attitude:
Hi there friends, my name is Taylor McCall Fenske, and I am a Loan Officer with Fairway Independent Mortgage Corporation! When Rachel asked me if I would write a piece for her Top-of-Mind newsletter I was truly so excited and honored and couldn’t wait to get right to it! I would be lying however if I said I didn’t freeze up thinking to myself what the heck do I even write about?
So let me start with saying Rachel is AMAZING!
I met her a few weeks ago actually; at an event she was hosting; her “Top of Mind” goal-setting summit. I had tagged along with my sister-in-law who had already known Rachel and let me tell you, I am SO glad I did. Her drive, compassion, and dedication to her goals, reminded me of a time in my life where I was doing the same thing. I felt empowered, strong, and confident. Like I could do anything. The reason I am sharing this is because I am fairly new in the mortgage industry. With so much to learn, guidelines and news changing ALL THE TIME, I’ve realized goal setting needs to be an even more pertinent part of how I live my life and run my business and Rachel reminded me of that!
I have always known that goal setting can give you a huge advantage when looking to achieve something, but it can sometimes be easy to get distracted and pulled off course.
The first time I learned what goal setting could really do was when I was about 14 years old. To start off, I grew up Alpine Snow Ski Racing here locally at Steven Pass. I raced competitively from the ages of 5 all the way up to my junior year of high school.
Throughout my time as a skier (I still am, just not competitively), I found that I suffered from some pretty bad performance anxiety. It would come my time to race, and I would absolutely freeze up and rarely ever perform as well as I had in training. It was then that my parents decided to sign me up to speak with a sports psychologist. It was weird and awkward at first, but she used several different methods to get me out of my head and it actually really worked! She introduced me things such as visualization, self-talk and of course, GOAL SETTING!
We did tons and tons of goal setting, getting down to the deep nitty gritty of why I wanted what I did so bad. This was extensively beneficial because I was finally able to see, written down in front of me, what I wanted to achieve, how I was going to achieve it, and how long it was going to take me. It wasn’t until Rachels event that I was reminded of this, and I am so grateful for that.
So, when I really think about my goals, I first think about where I have been and where I am right now.
As I mentioned above, I grew up ski racing locally. From then, I went on to Everett Community College and received my Associates Degree. I had always had a great passion for fitness so after a long time of trying to decide what I wanted to study, I transferred to Western Washington University and graduated with my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. However, during the time of my graduation, COVID was just hitting the scene and it was hard for me to find a job in my field of study with all the gyms closed.
So, I decided to go back to working at the coffee stand I worked at during my days at EVCC along with a wine bar on the side. This was good work, but I knew I wanted something more. Something that is rewarding and enables me to grow and hopefully support a family in the future.
It was last summer that I had gotten the idea. I was at one of my best friends’ weddings and I got to chatting with one of her aunts who was a very experienced loan officer. Her aunt mentioned that with my energy I would be great in the mortgage industry, and that was what put the idea in my head. I mean I did play “house” and make mud pies religiously as a little girl, so I kind of believe it was a long-time coming that I was meant to find this career. I have always dreamt of owning my own home, and what is a better way to achieve that than to become an expert in what it takes to become a homeowner.
My goals are simple really. I want to be able to raise a family in a home that I own and am proud to call mine. And the way I want to do this, is by giving other people the opportunity to do so as well. Although homeownership can give families a great sense of confidence and security, I also believe that the process of buying can be stressful and tedious…that’s where I come in. I want to provide education and guidance during the home-buying process in hopes that I can make it as easy-going and exciting as possible for homebuyers!
Cheers to GOALS, HOMEOWNERSHIP & a TOP OF MIND attitude!!
