If you know me, you know I LOVE larches! What are larches you ask? They are among the few deciduous conifers, which are usually evergreen. They are native to the cooler regions of the northern hemisphere, where they are found in lowland forests in the high latitudes, and high in mountains further south. For about 2 weeks every fall, the larches turn from green to deep yellow before losing their needles, making our alpine forests golden! So this week, my mom and I set out on an adventure to check them out and decided to explore a hike that has been on my bucket list for years!! Maple Pass Loop is located in the North Cascades and is one of the places you can see the larch trees this time of year. Although I have seen larches on hikes in the past, this was my first time on this trail... and it was incredible. It was also 10 miles, not 7, but every step was worth it. The fall colors were extremely vibrant and the weather was ideal. We had the best day - words can barely describe how happy I was to experience this magical place together. |
