POP UP WEEKEND WORKSHOP FAQ

What are the age requirements to attend?

Pop Up Weekends are open to dancers 10 - 20.

What standard of dancer should I be to attend the workshop?

Due to the intensity and fast pace classes dancers should be very confident in their hard shoe dances and ability. Dancers attending these workshops should be in Preliminary Championship, Open Champ (or the equivalent). We will have a few spots for Prizewinner dancers in each workshop.

What do I gain by attending?

A chance to work intimately with our influencer instructors, (which will be announced in 2026) on viral choreography and learn tips on content creation. Dancers attending will have the opportunity to be featured on the social media platforms of our instructors and elevate their own dancing and creativity to new heights. Dancers will leave the weekend with a wealth of knowledge on fancy footwork and skills to record, edit and put out their own social media videos.

What are the classrooms like?

Classrooms are air-conditioned and will take place at host University's theater department giving us access to production stages, rehearsal rooms, and a beautiful dance center. Lecture classes will take place in the auditorium perfect for editing classes, Q & A’s and more.

What are accommodations like?

Dancers will be placed in a Double-occupancy dormitory room sharing communal showers and bathrooms down the hall. Dancers will share the floor with fellow dancers of similar ages. Male and female dancers and staff will be housed on separate floors. Dancers are required to provide their one linens.

Union College does not provide air-conditioning in living quarters, campers are permitted to bring small, portable fans.

Aurora University provides air conditioned dorms for summer programs.

Can I request a roommate for the weekend?

We want to make sure all dancers are happy and enjoying their weekend with us! During the registration process, you will be able to request a roommate. If you didn’t list a roommate during the registration process, you can email the office to update your request. Roommates should be within a two year age range and of similar dancing level.

Are children chaperoned?

Yes, there is 24 hour supervision for all dancers under 18 years of age. All group leaders and instructors undergo background checks and interviews prior to hiring.

Are there airport shuttle services available?

Yes, CRC does offer shuttles to and from the airport. Dancers can book airport shuttles as part of the booking process. An additional charge will be applied. Flight arrangements should be made at least 2 weeks prior to the workshop and confirmed with the camp office.

What is the schedule and start and finish times for the workshop?

The workshop will take place Friday to Sunday. There will be a mix of dancing and lecture based classes. POP UP’s main focus is the dancing, we will have small social activities in the evening after projects are done. A full schedule of classes and activities will be provided for dancers at their initial check in. More information will be shared with attendees as we get closer to workshop weekends.

Will families and friends get the chance to see the dancers perform what they learned?

Videos and photos will be posted throughout the weekend. There is no performance or showcase for parents/families to see at the end of the weekend. Any videos recored will be put out by the workshop instructors within a week or so after the completion of the workshop.

What should I pack for the workshop?

A full list of items will be emailed out prior to the weekend. Each dancer should bring dance or athletic attire, soft and hard shoes, sneakers and black clothing for filming. Dancers will need to provide their own bedding and linens and whatever else they will need to be comfortable.

Will dancers be allowed their cell phones?

YES!! Dancers will be allowed cell phones and electronics such as a tablet or computer. Dancers may have classes on editing and recording, they may wish to pack a phone tripod as well. Dancers will be encouraged to have their phones and devices on mute and put away during classes, unless specified to have them out. We want dancers to be fully involved and in the moment!

Do you accept children with special conditions such as food/environmental allergies or special diets?

We think every child should have the opportunity to experience an overnight camp. Therefore we try to accept every dancer who registers. It is very unlikely we will not accept your child based on any medical conditions, but we ask you to call the office first and speak with the director. We do our best to accommodate lactose intolerant, gluten-free and vegetarian diets but please contact CRC to discuss your child’s dietary needs.

What are your staff and security like?

The State Health Department requires us to provide a ratio of 1 staff member to every 10-12 campers, but our staff ratio is actually 1:8. All staff are vetted and undergo interviews prior to hiring. We provide nightly security checks, and all dorms are locked by 11:00 pm. Union College and Aurora University provides additional security and nightly checks, we have a close relationship with each Campus Security. If you would like more information on our staff and security, send the camp office an email and we will happily answer your questions in more detail!

Will dancers need spending money?

Dancers will have access to the canteen shop, if they choose to purchase additional snacks or drinks. Dancers are not permitted to bring snacks to the workshop unless for medical reasons/ approval. Both locations are peanut and tree nut free.

Do you provide nurses on your staff?

A full time medical professional will be provided and available to all dancers during the weekend. We set-up a full working infirmary and stock it with everything a dancer would need from bug spray to crutches. We hope they will not have to use the latter.

Do you hold any certifications?

Yes, we are certified and permitted to operate a dance camp by State Health Departments. We also are certified with The American Camp Nurse Association and are members of The American Camp Association. All of our nurses are certified with the Red Cross and/or American Heart Association.
