2015-2016 National Honor Society Inductees
Congratulations to the 2015-2016 National Honor Society Inductees!!!
The 2015-2016 Prince of Peace Christian School National Honor Society Induction Ceremony was held
Wednesday
morning, April 13, in the Fine Arts Center. The current officers conducted the ceremony. Congratulations to our newly inducted members!
The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.
Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in NHS activities. NHS chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.

Making Parenting a Priority:
POPCS Starts Study Group on Father-Daughter Relationships
All Are Invited!!!
A new men's morning Bible study/study group will begin Tuesday, April 26, at 7:15 a.m. in the Administration Board Room. All members of our POPCS family are invited to participate!
The group, led by chief advancement officer Patrick Carlove, will read and discuss the book, "Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters: 10 Secrets Every Father Should Know" by Dr. Meg Meeker. Covering two chapters per week, the study will last five weeks, ending on Tuesday, May 24.
Join Patrick and other Prince of Peace fathers as they examine ways to build strong bonds with their daughters as they age through adolescence into adulthood. This book is not just for fathers of teenagers, but for parents of children of all ages. "Offering an opportunity for our parents to come together as a social and support system as we raise Christian children is just one of the ways Prince of Peace benefits our students' spiritual, physical and academic growth," said Carlove. "I hope many dads will come out for this study."
For more information, or to request a copy of the book, contact
Patrick Carlove or at 214-995-9407 and plan to join us on Tuesday, April 26!

A BIG SHOUT-OUT to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church!
Church Provides Snacks for POPCS Staff Meeting
The POPCS staff and administration was treated to a real "treat" last week before the monthly POPCS Staff Meeting in the Fine Arts Center.
The Prince of Peace Lutheran Church staff surprised and provided a wonderful "make your own" Trail Mix Bar for our teachers and front office team.
The choices were abundant and judging by the smiles and long line - everyone enjoyed the delicious goodies!
We appreciate the church staff taking such good care of us and we thank you for keeping us happily snacking each month!

IMPORTANT MESSAGE
PLEASE NOTE: Drop-Off & Pick-Up Traffic Reminders!
When bringing or picking up your child from school, follow all drop-off and pick-up procedures of the school.
Follow the directions of the school staff who are coordinating the loading and unloading of children in the designated drop-off and pick-up zones.
Do not use a cell phone when operating a motor vehicle on campus, including waiting in the drop off and pick up lines. Do not use your cell phone walking in and out of the school - we need everyone to stay alert.
The outer lane of the school parking lot is not a drop-off point. Please use the designated drop-off route.
SLOW DOWN. Obey the speed limit (20 MPH) when driving on campus.
Obey and pay attention to police officers and crossing guards who staff intersections along the designated school walking routes.
Remember you are not the only person dropping off or picking up your children. Strive to set a good example for those young eyes that watch and learn from the behavior and actions of parents, guardians and other adults in their lives.
We want to keep everyone safe on campus and we appreciate your participation in making this happen!

A NOTE FROM POPCS ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
Dear POPCS Families,
POPCS is blessed to have great facilities for our students and our athletic teams. At this time of the year, baseball, softball, track and soccer are all using the stadium for practice.
Due to this increased usage and the safety of all, we are asking that our parents restrict their usage between the hours of 2:45 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
This will allow the POPCS teams to have full access to the stadium and track as they enter this very important time of their seasons. Thank you for honoring this request.
Blessings,
Earl Garland
Athletic Director

Curt's Corner
WHEN PURSUING WHAT IS APPEALING
BECOMES DANGEROUS
"Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you as well". Matthew
6:33
The story is told of a family and their discovery on a trip to Niagara Falls. It was in the spring of the year and large blocks of ice were rushing down the river on their way to the Falls. Frozen inside each block of ice were the carcasses of dead fish.
Swarms of gulls were also riding down the river on the blocks of ice feeding on the dead fish. As they reached the brink of the Falls, they would majestically spread their large wings, fly away and thus avoid imminent death.
The observation of this family also included a sad tragedy. There were some gulls that seemed to stay on the ice too long. They were so involved in feasting on the fish they didn't realize that their claws had become frozen into the ice. When they came to the brink of the Falls, they too spread their wings to fly away. They flopped and flopped. They did not have the strength to loosen their claws or lift the block of ice and so they plunged to their death at the foot of the Falls.
This little story reminds us that the most appealing things in our lives can quickly turn dangerous or even deadly if we become too attached to them. That's why Jesus reminds us to make sure that we keep our priorities straight. The world offers us all kinds of alternatives-pleasure, success, rewards, acceptance, honor, fulfillment-all of which are worthy goals to pursue. The problem comes when we hold on to things so tightly that they become our idol, our top priority. They become more important to us than our relationship with our God.
As we reflect on our Lord, we see His tremendous love for us through His life, death and resurrection. His greatest desire is for each of us to experience the New Life He has obtained for us-here and now as well as in all eternity. The forces of evil continue to tempt us with "dead fish" designed to entice us and eventually destroy us. That's why Jesus promised to send the Comforter, the Holy Spirit who wants to teach us all things and lead us to and in the Truth. Take time each day to read and meditate on His Word-the Truth.
Through the guidance and power of that Spirit, we are enabled to elevate our relationship with God to a position of highest priority. According to His promise, the other things-pleasure, acceptance, recognition, honor, fulfillment, etc. will also be experienced by us according to His plan and timing. Count on it. Remember, He has never broken any of His promises!
