April is Volunteer Appreciation Month and we are thrilled to recognize the more than 5,300 volunteers that give more than 20,000 hours of their time each year to help in the fight to end hunger. Our volunteers fill a critical need for the Great Plains Food Bank and make our efforts to recover and distribute food across North Dakota and western Minnesota possible. Great Plains Food Bank announces 2018 Hunger Relief Champions

The highest honor we award each year, we have officially named Gate City Bank, Border States Electric, Aaron Becher and former U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp as Hunger Relief Champions for 2018. Each recipient has displayed an exceptional commitment to the Great Plains Food Bank’s mission of ending hunger through community partnerships and shares in our values of doing all things through passion, service and innovation. Gate City Bank Through food and financial donations, volunteering and in-kind gifts, Gate City Bank has been among the largest supporters of the Great Plains Food Bank for well over a decade. Read more about Gate City Bank here

Border States Electric Through volunteering, food and financial donations and regular involvement with Great Plains Food Bank signature events, Border States Electric has played an active role in the fight to end hunger for many years. Read more about Border States Electric here

Aaron Becher Becher has played a major role in the advancement of the Great Plains Food Bank over the last seven years including serving on the Great Plains Food Bank Board of Directors since 2012.  Read more about Aaron Becher here

Heidi Heitkamp, former U.S. Senator As a former United States Senator from North Dakota, Heitkamp has been a true champion of the Great Plains Food Bank advocating for hunger relief efforts and strong federal nutrition programs. Read more about Heidi Heitkamp here

CLIENT SPOTLIGHT: Down, but not out Financially, Tayla Henry was comfortable and able to provide for her two young kids. But that all changed the day her children's father moved out and the now single mom quickly struggled with food insecurity. She soon found a supplement for the loss of meals at the Emergency Food Pantry in Fargo, a partner agency of the Great Plains Food Bank. Read Tayla's full story and many more here.
