HelloNiki!
Welcome to PPG's 2023 Homeward Bound summit at the Arizona Humane Society and co-hosted with dog*biz!
As busy professionals, we have limited time and resources, so choosing which conference to attend each year is an important decision. Thank you for choosing to participate in this event!
This is the second time PPG has taken its conference to the West Coast, and we are excited to be hosting you at the Arizona Humane Society, a fabulous organization with whom we share so many values.
For many of us, annual conferences are a busman's holiday—a short vacation where we engage in business activities, network, expand our knowledge, and learn our craft. I always find them highly refreshing and motivating, and I enjoy the opportunity they provide to be surrounded by like-minded professionals with whom I can engage and learn. I also look forward to gaining new tools and resources that I can, in some fashion, use to leverage new business or support more clients and their pets. After all, isn't one of the primary reasons we attend professional conferences to develop our skills and provide new and improved services to our clients?
We have a stellar group of presenters for you across both feline and canine topics. Remember that just because the species focus for a session may be dogs or cats, there is still a lot to be learned that can be expanded across other animal groups. I encourage you to take the time to attend or observe sessions featuring different species and different presenters. You will be pleasantly surprised by the golden nuggets you can pick up!
This year, we have several presenters from the United Kingdom. You may have had the opportunity to see them via virtual sessions or webinars, and some of you may have been lucky enough to enjoy watching them work in person. I do know that you will enjoy their sessions and be left wanting more.
Please stop and say hello, and be sure to network with each other, the presenters, and the Arizona Humane Society staff. There is so much to learn from so many places.
Relax, learn, and enjoy!
Niki Tudge

Canine Behavior Counseling - Lanyard & Name Badges
As a certified dog behavior consultant, certified CARAT assessor, and owner of Canine Behavior Counseling, I am dedicated to helping dog owners better understand their dogs’ responses. Dogs that become overly aroused or fear aggressive, who guard resources or demonstrate confident aggression, are those I can help using a positive, holistic approach. My training programs encompass two comprehensive online training courses, webinars, virtual consultations, and personalized one-to-one counseling.
I also deeply enjoy assessing rescue and shelter dog temperaments to help place dogs with the best possible person or family. Dogs that display self-assured confidence and persistence may be matched as performance dogs. The highly social dog may find a place in therapy work. The less social dog may enjoy being an emotional support dog. The highly confident, low arousal, social dog may be a great service dog to a person in need. The friendly, tolerant dog would enjoy a family to share his life with. Little brings me more joy than to see a dog enjoying a life that matches their personality.
In my spare time, I love to participate in AKC tracking events with my two German shepherd dogs.

Pets for Vets - Share Your Wares
Every year, approximately one million shelter animals are euthanized in the United States, while many of our veterans are experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, anxiety, and/or depression. Pets for Vets founder and executive director, Clarissa Black, created a solution by rescuing and training animals for veterans. Pets for Vets has a unique program model that customizes each match by ascertaining the superpowers of both the veteran and the animal to create a Super Bond® between them. Additionally, Pets for Vets allows shelter animals the choice and agency to participate in the program based on their response to multiple stimuli.
Pets for Vets is looking to partner with trainers and shelters across the country to continue to expand the program. Clarissa has created a generous opportunity for R+ trainers located anywhere in the United States to join her team while keeping a flexible schedule, earning stipends, and receiving professional development opportunities. Shelters can also partner with Pets for Vets by providing animal recommendations based on temperament profiles that match our veterans’ personality and lifestyle profiles. The whole program has positive reinforcement at its core for the animals, veterans, and trainers.

Dogwise Publishing - Share Your Wares
Dogwise Publishing was founded in 2002 with the initial effort focused on keeping in print books that appealed to dog show handlers and trainers but had been dropped by other publishers. The first few projects went well, so Dogwise decided to expand the publishing business by working with authors to develop books on subjects that were of interest to professional trainers and dog enthusiasts, like aggressive behavior, body language, and new training protocols. Dogwise has had the opportunity to work on book projects with many of the leading experts in the dog world, like Turid Rugaas, Pat Miller, Jean Donaldson, Terry Ryan, and Patricia McConnell. Dogwise continues to operate a retail book business selling a wide range of titles online beyond what it publishes.
