Kansas county and city clerks visit Wichita

It was March Madness last month in the professional development department as over 200 city and county clerks from across the state came to Wichita for back-to-back weeks of professional development. Session topics included memory power, communication, finance and human resources, while dynamic speakers included memory master Paul Mellor and "Lunchmeat and Life Lessions" author Mary B. Lucas. Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Ben, of Twitter fame, shared at both events about the power of Twitter and connecting with your audience. He was hit, as evidenced by several #selfieswithacop on Twitter!

We are so proud of our city and county clerks and the work they do. Their dedication to professional development and continuing education speaks volumes about their service to our communities. All in all, total city and county professional development hours at the end of March came to around 3,250!
PPMC Director Misty Bruckner's son Ty was a SuperSAC dialogue participant!
Project Wichita engages USD 259 students

Last month, USD 259 graciously allowed Project Wichita to join the spring  SuperSAC Student Dialogue Session, where PPMC facilitators got the opportunity to ask over 100 Wichita high school students about their vision for the city's future. The dialogue session served as the perfect kick-off to Project Wichita's listening phase, and we were pleased to gain the perspectives of the future generation for this important community engagement.

Customer service training in Western Kansas

Professional development manager Paula Downs hit the road for Garden City last week to conduct customer service training for City Utilities Department employees.
Approximately 45 attendees learned skills necessary to deliver good customer service, such as how to communicate and listen better, and how to deal with difficult customers and how to address conflict when it arises. The group was engaged in providing examples and experiences that enhanced the training. The PPMC looks forward to being back in Garden City soon!
