Accounting Academy for Government Finance Professionals held at Wichita State

Over the last two weeks, government finance professionals from across the state were on the WSU campus attending the Kansas Government Finance Officers Association (KSGFOA) Accounting Academy.  Presenters from RSM US LLP, came from Oklahoma and Kansas City to provide instruction on the national curriculum developed by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). 

The sessions covered topics such as fund types, financial statement elements, categorizing transactions and events, governmental fund financial statements, fiduciary funds, component units, overview of a CAFR and Financial Statement Audit, as well as several other topics during the four all-day sessions. KSGFOA, for which the PPMC provides administrative services, offers the Academy every two years at different locations around the state.  Kudos to the attendees for being willing to brave some winter weather conditions both weeks in order to be in attendance!
PPMC to Conduct Community Housing Analysis for City of Wellington, Kansas   

The PPMC's Research and Evaluation team will soon begin work with the City of Wellington to complete a housing analysis for a Rural Housing Incentive District (RHID).  The RHID allows for housing developers to recoup public infrastructure cost in a designated area by collecting the property tax on improvements made in the district. To utilize the tool, a community must complete an analysis that meets thresholds established by state law and the Kansas Department of Commerce. 

Wellington hopes to use the analysis to pursue an RHID and improve housing stock. If your community has an interest in using the RHID, please contact Matt Stiles (matthew.stiles@wichita.edu) at the PPMC for more details.
PPMC Team Welcomes Graduate
Research Assistant Eryn Ebach   

At the beginning of the Spring 2020 semester, Eryn Ebach joined the PPMC as a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA). The PPMC team currently has five GRAs, who gain valuable applied learning experience while making contributions to PPMC projects and events. 
 
Eryn was born in Detroit, Michigan, and holds a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Wichita State. She is a first-year student in WSU's Master of Public Administration (MPA) program. Before returning to WSU to pursue a graduate degree, Eryn worked in political and nonprofit fundraising. She enjoys listening to NPR/KMUW and is always on the lookout for an interesting book or podcast. Upon completion of her MPA, Eryn's dream is to one day work for the National Institutes of Health or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as a prevention scientist. Welcome to the PPMC team, Eryn!
