Ready for 2019

  In December, the staff of the Public Policy and Management Center held its annual retreat, where we reviewed the work we did in 2018 and geared up for 2019.
 The PPMC is a resource for public servants, elected officials, nonprofit organizations, local governments and other entities. We're here to provide professional development with educational seminars, conferences and specialized training. If you need research on best practices, policy development, program evaluation and more, we have research staff that can dig into those projects. If you need technical assistance or consultation, such as citizen surveys, visioning or other such projects, we're here for that too.

Hostage negotiator to keynote KACM conference
    Dan Oblinger, a Kansas native and author of  "Life or Death Listening: A Hostage Negotiator's How-to Guide to the Essential Communication Skill," will be the keynote speaker at the Kansas Association of City/County Management's winter conference Feb. 14 on the WSU campus.
  Oblinger, who has mastered the art of persuading people in crisis to make great decisions despite the worst circumstances, will talk about what it takes for leaders to undertake the task of creating organizational changes.
  Other sessions at the conference will focus on HR issues, including recruiting public safety officials, a legislative overview, security breaches and new modes of transportation.
   Registration rates are $130 through Jan. 31; $145 for registrations starting Feb. 1; and $25 for students/interns.
