In last year's Project Wichita community priorities survey, access to mental health care was ranked sixth by those who live in the Wichita area.
Subsequently, a group of community leaders from nonprofits, local government and the private sector has come together to start to address these issues.
The Mental Health and Substance Abuse Coalition hosted a summit at Wichita State University on Thursday, June 20
,
with approximately 90 people attending.
The summit provided an update to care providers, community members and elected leaders on the Coalition's mission, upcoming research, engagement and planning activities. The Coalition will focus on an integrated system of care for people with substance abuse or mental health disorders in crisis.
Bothner and Bradley, Inc. is leading strategic plan development for the Coalition. As part of the strategic planning process, the Public Policy and Management Center will be conducting focus groups with providers, community organizations and law enforcement. The PPMC will also conduct a gap analysis in services, funding and community models.
