Zumba
Win the Day kickoff held June 1
  
    The summer series got an energetic start on Saturday, June 1, at the Boys and Girls Club. The kickoff featured registration for the walking sessions, Zumba (pictured) led by local fitness instructor Denise Colborn, great food from T.O.P.S., and a chance to chat with representatives from the PPMC, YMCA, Boys and Girls Club and HealthCore Clinic.  Win the Day is a  12-week health and fitness series geared toward residents of the neighborhoods hugging WSU. The program is a partnership of Shocker Neighborhood Coalition, the PPMC, City of Wichita Park and Recreation and Denise Colborn Fitness. Funding for the fitness series is provided by a grant from the Kansas Health Foundation. 
Beginning tomorrow, fitness walking classes will meet four times a week at 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. April Hernandez named director of Goddard Public Library 
    The PPMC was happy to assist the Goddard Public Library board of directors during its selection and hiring of a new library director. Last month, the library welcomed April Hernandez (standing in the center in the photo at right) as director. Hernandez, who previously served as library director in Medicine Lodge, was introduced to the community during an open house on May 19. Later this month, the PPMC will lead a board retreat focusing on developing board leadership skills and creating an organizational work plan to implement the library's strategic plan. Halstead
City of Halstead develops community vision and goals 
    More than 30 intrepid residents of Halstead braved the rain and severe weather on May 20 to participate in a community meeting at which they were able to review the strategic plan draft developed by a city council-appointed steering committee. The participants were able to express their opinions about the strategic plan and vote for their priorities. Those who were not able to attend will have an opportunity to make their voice heard through an online survey open until mid-June. To date, more than 200 residents have participated in the planning process.

De Soto Clerk Lana McPherson sworn in as president of IIMC   
    We are proud to partner with the City Clerks and Municipal Finance Officers of Kansas and are excited to celebrate  Lana McPherson - City Clerk and HR Director for the City of De Soto, Kan. - who was sworn in last month as president of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks at the organization's annual conference. Thank you, Lana, for representing all the great work done by city clerks in Kansas and across the world!
