WPS celebrates "Year of Yes" at evening event, honors careers of Hansel and Owens 

Members of the Women in Public Service (WPS) group gathered on Oct. 24 to celebrate a fantastic "Year of Yes" and to honor the public service careers of two dedicated women who are planning their upcoming retirement: Shelley Hansel, who will be retiring from her position as Mayor of Wellington, Kan., and Liz Owens, who will be retiring from her position as Water Distribution Division Manager for the City of Wichita. In addition to the celebration, next year's book and theme were introduced at the evening event. Members of WPS will be reading "Lean In" by Sheryl Sandberg, and will work to Lean In, Lead On during 2020. A special thank you to the Kansas Health Foundation for being a book sponsor. 

Congratulations to Hansel and Owens, two dedicated public servants who have been trailblazers throughout their public service careers. And here's to Leaning In and Leading On in 2020!

PPMC director named to KLC Civic Engagement Advisory Committee 

Last month, the Kansas Leadership Center (KLC) announced the formation of a Civic Engagement Advisory Committee. PPMC Director Misty Bruckner is one of 22 individuals from across Kansas to be named to the Committee. The Committee's inaugural meeting was held on Oct. 29. " I appreciate the opportunity to be part of this statewide initiative and learning from others committed to community engagement," says Bruckner. "I truly value the diverse perspectives and experiences represented on the board. I also want to thank KLC for investing in and advancing conversations on community engagement."

Current PPMC Projects 

The PPMC is currently wrapping up work with the City of Edwardsville on a master plan for the City's Parks and Recreation department. The plan included a large community engagement effort that netted more than 250 participants from the community.
 
The PPMC is working with the City of Newton on a community survey. The survey will include a wide range of topics geared toward helping the City Commission make decisions in the 2021 budget cycle.
