Attention PPOA Members in Unit 612:
On May 28, 2025, your Unit 612 Negotiations Team met with County and Department executives for the 15th round of bargaining over the past eight months, seeking a successor Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Despite our continued, relentless efforts, it has become increasingly clear that public safety issues are not the highest priority for County leadership. PPOA is deeply grateful to those who stood with us at the Board of Supervisors meeting on April 15, 2025, where we voiced our collective opposition to their support for a proposed 0% cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for County employees. Your presence sent a powerful message, and we have made some (albeit minimal) progress on the COLAs, now receiving proposed COLAs in the 2nd and 3rd years.
While PPOA recognizes the significant financial impact of the recent wildfires and AB 218 (a four-billion-dollar plus payout for sexual abuse victims) on the County’s budget, it is important to note that the County has yet to present any legitimate claim of a financial inability to offer us a fair and equitable contract. Their latest proposals fail to acknowledge the daily sacrifices and unwavering commitment of our members. This is unacceptable.
We are facing a crisis—critically low staffing levels, declining morale, and worsening impacts on mental health. These conditions are not sustainable, as tragically underscored by the events of the past two weeks. PPOA refuses to allow this to become the new normal.
We will continue to fight for every inch of progress and will keep you informed. Our 16th round of bargaining is scheduled for June 10, 2025. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions and/or concerns or if you want me to contact you personally, please request so at info@ppoa.com.
Respectfully,
Steve Johnson, President
