President Signs Social Security Fairness Act Into Law

January 5: The Social Security Fairness Act (H.R. 82) was signed into law by President Biden on Sunday. This historic legislative victory for millions of public servants and their families repeals the punitive and discriminatory Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) laws. More than 2.7 million hardworking Americans are currently affected by the WEP and GPO regulations, which slash Social Security, pensions, and other retirement benefits. Many more have been penalized since the laws were enacted nearly 40 years ago.

More information can be found in the January 2025 issue of Star & Shield magazine and on the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) website. The FOP has been at the forefront of this fight for fairness from the very beginning and this monumental victory highlights the strength of collective tenacity and focus. PPOA is proud of our longtime affiliation with the FOP and the fact that our active members make up the largest component of California FOP Lodge #1.
