All active PPOA members are California State FOP Lodge 1 members — this provides PPOA members with workplace legal protections through the FOP Legal Defense Plan. The LA County Lodge is one of more than 30 lodges in the statewide organization.

PPOA Members Tee Off for a Worthy Cause

October 28: PPOA members proudly represented this Association at the San Dimas Station Golf Tournament on Monday. These opportunities to attend events on behalf of PPOA are extended to members on a regular basis. Please make it a point to monitor communication from PPOA for the next invitation to support a good cause while representing your union.

Unit 612 Contract Negotiations

October 30: PPOA members on the Unit 612 contract negotiations team met with representatives from the County of Los Angeles, the Sheriff's Department, and the District Attorney’s Office for the second round of contract bargaining in the PPOA conference center. Centurion Awards for Excellence

October 30: The Centurion Awards for Excellence ceremony was hosted by the Peace Officers Association of Los Angeles County on Wednesday. President Steve Johnson attended and was particularly proud to support two PPOA members, Senior Criminalists April Wong-Whitehead and Steve Shiraishi, who received the prestigious award in recognition for their professional achievements and dedication.

Centurion Award recipients are selected from numerous submissions of law enforcement professionals throughout Los Angeles County. The annual ceremony shines the spotlight on their exceptional performance in Community Partnerships, Investigations, Traffic, Technical Support, Field Operations and Innovations.

Notice Emailed to Members re: NFL Credentialling

Star Post 309 Law Enforcement Military Ball

November 1: Former Air Force Captain and current PPOA President Steve Johnson joined PPOA Executive Board Member Joyce Kato and fellow American Legion Star Post 309 members and guests at the Law Enforcement Military Ball in Montebello.

As an executive officer of Star Post 309, President

Johnson is honored to be counted among a long list of PPOA leaders who served our nation in the armed forces and he looks forward to continue strengthening the relationship between PPOA and his fellow military veterans.

Star Post 309 was founded in 1927 by LA County Deputies who were veterans of World War I. Today, its members include active and retired — sworn, civilian, reserve — members of the Sheriff's Department.

Fraternal Order of Police News Update

PPOA members have long benefitted from our affiliation with the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), the world's largest organization of law enforcement officers, with more than 374,000 members in more than 2,100 lodges nationwide. All active PPOA members are part of California FOP Lodge 1.

Important update re: FOP membership for retired PPOA members

When a sworn PPOA member retires and wishes to reactivate his/her FOP member benefits, the following step must be taken: To reactivate your membership as a retired peace officer, you will need to pay FOP annual dues of $40 for 2024. To do so, please send an email to the FOP Lodge 1 Secretary at wmwestermann@sbcglobal.net

Please make it a point to check out Washington Watch — a weekly news update provided by the National FOP. We encourage PPOA members to stay up to date on the legislative news and activity impacting public safety personnel nationwide.
