PPOA Welcomes New Sergeants
January 31: PPOA representatives were proud to meet with 34 new members on their first day of Sergeant Supervisory School at Biscailuz Center. This was the second of three classes from the 99 Sergeants who earned promotions on December 19, 2021. Representatives from PPOA included Executive Director Wayne Quint Jr. and Labor Rep. Teresa O'Neil.
PPOA Legal Team Meeting re: COVID-19
February 1: PPOA representatives participated in the weekly teleconference to discuss the latest COVID-19 developments and how to mitigate their impact on PPOA members

Meeting participants from PPOA included President Tab Rhodes, Executive Director Wayne Quint Jr., Senior Labor Rep. Venise Wallace, Labor Rep. Teresa O'Neil, Intake Rep. Kevin Thompson and PPOA attorneys.
PPOA Legislative Committee Meeting
February 1: Members of the PPOA Legislative Committee hosted a teleconference with our full-time Sacramento legislative representatives — Lang, Hansen, Giroux and Kidane — to discuss updates to legislation that could potentially impact PPOA members and public safety employees throughout the state. Participants from PPOA included President Rhodes, 2nd Vice President Tony Coleman, Board Secretary Jose Rios, Legislative Consultant Art Reddy and Executive Director Quint.
Meeting re: NCCF Temporary Sergeant Loans
February 1: PPOA representatives met with LASD executives from Employee Relations and Custody Division to discuss the process of temporarily providing Sergeant loan items to NCCF. Participants from PPOA included President Rhodes, 1st Vice President Escobedo and Executive Director Quint.
Sheriff Election Committee Meeting
February 1: PPOA Board Members and selected Delegates took part in a video conference to continue their ongoing evaluation of the 2022 LA County Sheriff election. The meeting was centered on preparations for interviews with each of the seven candidates requesting an endorsement from PPOA. These interviews in the PPOA conference center began with three candidates yesterday and will continue with the remaining four on Monday. PPOA will notify members when videos of these interviews are posted at PPOA.COM.
PPOA Communication Committee Meeting
February 2: PPOA Board and staff representatives hosted a teleconference on Wednesday to continue assessing PPOA's communication with its membership. The PPOA Communications Committee is chaired by 1st Vice President Nancy Escobedo and she was joined on this call by President Rhodes, 2nd Vice President Coleman, Board Member Gerry Garcia, Executive Director Quint and PPOA staff.
Sheriff Discusses Current Events
February 2: Sheriff Villanueva hosted a Facebook live stream on Wednesday to discuss current events, including the Department's role in providing public safety for the upcoming Super Bowl at SoFi Stadium, issues with the California Attorney General's Office and more.

Meeting re: Promotional Exams
February 2: PPOA took part in a teleconference with representatives from Employee Relations and Personnel to discuss the timeline for the proposed 2022 LASD Sergeant promotional exam. Participants from PPOA included President Rhodes, 1st Vice President Escobedo and Executive Director Quint.
PPOA Unit 612 Negotiations Team Meeting
February 3: Members of the PPOA Unit 612 negotiations team held an internal teleconference to discuss strategies for ongoing salary contract negotiations. The next round of contract talks with the County is tentatively scheduled for February 10th.
Meet and Confer re: Mandatory Registration and Testing
February 3: PPOA representatives joined Employee Relations and Personnel on Thursday for the latest in a series of Meet and Confer teleconferences to discuss the mandatory registration and testing processes implemented by the Sheriff's Department. Participants from PPOA included President Rhodes, Executive Director Quint and Legal Counsel Jim Cunningham.

PPOA plans to continue the Meet and Confer series on this matter for the foreseeable future.
PPOA Hosts Sheriff Candidate Interviews
February 4: As part of our goal to keep you informed about the issues impacting your career, PPOA's Sheriff Election Committee began conducting interviews yesterday with each of the seven candidates currently requesting the endorsement of PPOA.

These interviews are a follow up to the Candidates Forum hosted on January 26th by PPOA and ALADS. As a reminder, you can view a video of that event at PPOA.COM.
