CDC Health Advisory

Increased Respiratory Virus Activity, Especially Among Children, Early in the 2022-23 Fall and Winter

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is issuing this Health Alert Network (HAN) Health Advisory about early, elevated respiratory disease incidence caused by multiple viruses occurring especially among children and placing strain on healthcare systems. Co-circulation of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), influenza viruses, SARS-CoV-2, and others could place stress on healthcare systems this fall and winter. This early increase in disease incidence highlights the importance of optimizing respiratory virus prevention and treatment measures, including prompt vaccination and antiviral treatment, as outlined below.

Epic Upgrading Overnight 11/9/22

The next Epic upgrade starts Wednesday, 11/9/22 at 9 PM with a short downtime estimated to last 3 hours. The inability to create and share certain customizations will last until the upgrade is completed.

  • Please learn all about the important changes coming with the upgrade by reviewing the Upgrade Release Notes, Superuser meeting and Ring the Trainer recordings and the Synopsis Video and Tip Sheet in the November 2022 Release Notes Module on the ‘Everything Epic Training’ page in Umbrella.

PPOC Strategy Meetings

The PPOC is launching its next strategy exercise to steer the organization through the coming three years. As we begin to develop the workplan, we would very much welcome and appreciate your thoughts and input on:

  • Your experience over past three years and how the PPOC supported and strengthened your practice, as well as areas where you would have liked to have seen more or different assistance and;
  • The challenges you see facing you, your practice and the PPOC generally that should be considered during this next planning cycle.

We have arranged three Zoom meetings for these discussions on Wednesday November 30th and encourage your participation in one of them:

  1. 7:30- 8:30 AM
  2. 12-1 PM
  3. 6-7 PM
Register to attend one of the meetings

Next Epic Upgrade November 9th

The next Epic upgrade will occur on Wednesday, November 9th at 9 PM. Please make sure to review all Upgrade information found in the November 2022 Release Notes module on Umbrella including the Epic Release Notes, Synopsis changes, Super User meeting and Ring the Trainers recordings.

NoteWriter Customization

As of Thursday 11/10/22, the NoteWriter activity tab position cannot be personalized. We are working on a solution so that users can move the NoteWriter activity tab and we will communicate additional information via Weekly Roundup once available.

Postpone Button Removal

Starting with the upgrade on Thursday 11/10, the Postpone button found in the Overdue Results folder in In Basket will no longer allow users to select a specific date and instead automatically set a postpone number of days. Due to the change in functionality, the Postpone button will be removed and users will need to use the Follow Up button to postpone any message/task.

Ocular screening claims (CPT code 99174 and 99177) denied with remark code 08 indicate they were not billed with the correct diagnosis code for a patient age 6 and older, which is required for the claim to be considered for reimbursement. The Omnibus Codes – Commercial Medical Policy outlines more than 200 CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, including the full coverage rationale and clinical evidence applicable to each of the listed procedures.

You may submit a corrected claim within 1 year of the original explanation of benefits (EOB) or provider remittance advice (PRA) that outlined the claim denial. The correction(s) submitted should represent a complete replacement of the previous claim and include the appropriate modifier for any claim that has been denied. Please use the correct frequency code or bill type to indicate it is a replacement claim or clearly mark it with the word “corrected”.
