Church Office is Closed Today
The church office is closed today June 29th and will reopen on Monday July 2 at 9:00 a.m
For pastoral emergencies please contact The Rev. Linda Chase directly at 732-232-5007.
On Sunday, July 1st we will ordain and install new church officers - elders and deacons. Some of those who were elected by the congregation on June 24th have previously been ordained and so will only need to be installed.
My favorite part of the ordination service is what comes after the constitutional questions have been asked of those who have been elected. All who have been ordained to either office, even if they are not currently serving on either board, are invited to come forward for the laying on of hands. Often times there are so many previously ordained officers who come forward, they cannot put a hand on those who are kneeling to be ordained. They place a hand on the shoulder of the person in front of them or next to them. It is this great cloud of witness, as is spoken of in Hebrews 12, surrounding the newly ordained. A prayer is said over those who are kneeling inviting the Holy Spirit to be present at that moment and to touch the lives of those who just promised to serve Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. It is a special moment in the life of the community of faith.
When I was ordained as a Teaching Elder, although we were called Ministers of Word and Sacrament back then, I was ordained in my then church in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. My parents had driven out from Rochester, NY to be present at my ordination. Both of my parents were Ruling Elders and so came forward for the laying on of hands when I was kneeling in front of the congregation. I can still recall the special feeling I got when all those hands were placed on me. The moment was made even more special because my parents were among those whose hands were blessing me.
I invite you to be in worship July 1 for the service of ordination/installation and to receiver Holy Communion.

Summer brings a lot of things but often it means a drop in attendance due to vacations
and summer distractions. I
t is during the summer that our giving tends to dips.
Our ministries here at Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church continue during the summer months - worship on Sunday continues, the office remains staffed and ready to help, various groups like Busy Hands continue to meet, and we even have a Vacation Bible School in August. Our financial team does a great job preparing for this summer decline but our summer bills never take a vacation. We very much need your continued financial support in the summer months.
If you are away over the summer you can take advantage of several ways to easily give.
1. Donations can be mailed or dropped off directly to the church.
2. You can use your bank's online bill pay system which can automatically make a payment on a date you desire.
allows you to use a debit/credit card to schedule a payment.
Our electronic giving services is powered by the Presbyterian Foundation. When you make a payment through our website you are not only contributing towards our mission but also to the global Presbyterian mission. All ways are s
imple, safe and secure and include no setup or maintenance fees.
Giving allows you to be obedient to God

The Manse at 704 Forman Avenue, Point Pleasant Beach
Last week the Session voted to renovate the Manse to accommodate a new pastor or to accommodate a rental agreement. There is a special history with the Manse and the church.
It is recorded that Zebulon Van Note held a deed dated Sept 29, 1879 for Lot 873 on the Map of Point Pleasant Land Company. This is the location on the current Manse.
Zebulon P. Vannote was a farmer, stage proprietor, politician, and business entrepreneur who married Mary Thompson and they raised five children at 704 Forman Avenue.
Zebulon owned the Zebulon Van Note Livery Stables.
Mrs. Van Note was received as a member at Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church in 1892. She was a dedicated and faithful worker in the church leading the Missionary Society for 17 years. She was known for her beautiful prayers during prayer meetings. During that time she graciously opened up her home for church receptions and sociables.
Following their passing the church purchased the homestead on December 9, 1957 from their daughter Florence N Wheeler at the cost of $25,000. The homestead included a vacant corner lot which is now the site of the Christian Education Building. (Mrs. Wheeler was the mother of long time member Emery Wheeler.)
Under the ownership of the church, the manse has underdone many renovations over the years. The first was in 1969 and the last major renovation ran from 1999-2003.
