SYSTEM PARTNERS LEARN ABOUT THE SIX CORE STRATEGIES ®

Thank you to the over 150 participants who joined us for our Six Core Strategies ® live webinar on June 2nd (read more here ). Each member of the coaching team (bios here ) provided an overview of each strategy emphasizing how it could be used to enhance collaboration and support the CFT process that is both sustainable and trauma-informed. We also presented a crosswalk comparing SAMSHA's ten implementation domains for building " Resilient And Trauma Informed Communities, " to the Six Core Strategies ® . Click here to see SAMHSA's 'Spotlight' newsletter for more ideas on how leadership and community collaboration can enhance long term outcomes for youth and families, and how their implementation domains parallel the objectives of PPS 2.0 grant.
LEADERSHIP DURING TIMES OF CRISIS
The Six Core Strategies ® were born out of an urgent need to end a crisis. Youth were dying following the use of physical restraint while being treated in psychiatric facilities. At present, we are faced with another deadly crisis as the country wrestles with the issues of abuse of police power, racism, and political divide. Addressing this crisis calls for urgent action. Recognizing this call, Executive Director of the Union County FSO and the NJ Alliance of Family Support Organizations, Dr. DeLacy Davis, formulated his "7 Potential Solutions," which he has presented to area business and civic leaders. These solutions are inspiring and a clear call for action that we all should consider.
PPS 2.0: BEYOND NHA

Did you know, the PPS 2.0 grant is more than just the Nurtured Heart Approach ®? When looking through the Six Core Strategies ® as a framework, NHA can be seen as an integral part of Workforce Development because it teaches us important engagement skills through its three "Stands." And our NHA Certified Trainer Learning Community remains a great support for your organization's NHA trainers. Click here for the 2020 meeting schedule. Although all our PPS coaches are NHA Advanced Trainers, the team brings more than just NHA to the process. We use components of the Six Core Strategies ® to guide and inform our work. So that means a full complement of trauma-informed practices will be a part of many coaching engagements. Using this broader approach, the opportunities for agency-wide impact should be greater and more sustainable than those using NHA alone.
PPS2.0 HAS RESOURCES TO HELP
YOUR AGENCY WITH IMPLICIT BIAS
Implicit bias is a product of how our brain automatically and unconsciously organizes what we learn as we experience life beginning in our childhood homes and into our adult communities. Implicit bias is at the root of stereotyping and correlated with the human problem of racism. Because it is out of awareness and a part of the human condition, implicit bias always affects, at least to some degree, how we approach situations including even our work with youth and families. There is good news. Our PPS 2.0 team can offer you information and guidance on how you could uncover and deal with implicit bias. As a result you can expect to have a clearer understanding and strategy to prevent implicit bias from interfering with your work. Want to get started? Ask your PPS 2.0 coach for more information.
ENGAGING FAMILIES THROUGH TEAMWORK
A portion of the PPS 2.0 grant seeks to help CIACCs bring more youth and family voices into the process. Accomplishing this requires passion and teamwork. On the lookout for all of this is PPS 2.0 Coach, Paulette Mader. Recently Paulette put a spotlight on the great teamwork that the Camden County Educational Partnership was doing to build connections between schools, system partners and families. That group's Sonia Cohen offered this quote during a recent Q&A session, "Teamwork Makes The Dream Work!" Don't you just love how that sounds! If you want to hear more inspiring stories or want to share the spotlight with your own ideas, reach out to Paulette. She would be thrilled to connect with you.
WELCOME TO THE TEAM: DEB McKERNAN-ACE!

In her role, Deb will bring her expertise to the PPS 2.0 coaching team to inform system partners how to meet the sensory regulation needs of youth and caregivers.
