PennDOT is investing about $100 million of Pennsylvania's National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program Funds into four Regional Community Charging funding rounds. Funds for the PennDOT NEVI program are to be awarded on a competitive basis to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain charging stations across Pennsylvania.
Currently, Pittsburgh Region Clean Cities (PRCC) is working with Duquesne Light Company (DLC), the Congress of Neighboring Communities (CONNECT), and the Southwestern Pennsylvania Community Project Hub (CoHub), to support several NEVI Community Charging Funding Opportunity applications for the Western Region. Some of the potential applicants that have come forward include the Pittsburgh Airport Authority, the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, the University of Pittsburgh and several municipalities in Allegheny and Beaver Counties.
The Western Region represents an investment of approximately $25 million. Any publicly accessible location in PennDOT's Western Region is eligible for funding in Round 2; the Western Region spans Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Fayetteville, Forrest, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Warren, Washington and Westmoreland counties.
Applications for the Round 2 Western Region Funding Opportunity close on November 20, 2026 at 5:00 p.m. But there is still time to apply! If you may be interested in participating in the funding opportunity but have questions, you are encouraged to contact us as soon as possible.
An additional $11 million will be invested in PA’s Central Region, with these Round 3 applications due in March of 2027. Counties included in the Central Region opportunity include: Bedford, Blair, Bradford, Cambria, Cameron, Centre, Clearfield, Clinton, Columbia, Elk, Fulton, Huntingdon, Jefferson, Juniata, Lycoming, McKean, Mifflin, Montour, Northumberland, Potter, Somerset, Snyder, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Tioga, Union, and Wyoming.
PRCC expects to host a webinar about the Round 3 Funding Opportunity in collaboration with the MPOs in the Central Region later this Fall. An important goal of the effort is to demonstrate that local support for NEVI Community Charging applications is available in the form of technical assistance, project guidance, grant writing and more.
PennDOT has provided a wealth of resources for Funding Round 2 and Round 3 on its Community Charging page, including guidance documentation, webinar recordings and slides.
