Maintenance Matters
Welcome to "Maintenance Matters." In this month's installment, we're spotlighting Maintenance Specialist Danny Conyers. After working with us since July 2010, Danny has announced his retirement at the end of April.
We're certainly going to miss him.
If you're a regular visitor to any of our parks, then there's a good chance you've seen Danny at some point over the past 12-plus years. When he started back in 2010, he worked on the ballfield crew preparing our baseball and softball fields for afternoon and evening games. Later, he moved over to our mowing crew.
As our Parks Maintenance Division expanded, we transitioned from a system that can best be described as "everyone worked everywhere" to one in which our employees are now assigned to the same maintenance teams in the same parks everyday. This change has worked out well for several reasons, but perhaps most notably it has enabled our employees to cultivate friendly relationships with parks visitors - especially those who visit our parks frequently.
In Danny's case, we couldn't have asked for a better "parks ambassador." Not only has he done an excellent job taking care of Flaherty and Joyner Parks, but has also been able to meet and interact with visitors effectively serving as a friendly and knowledgeable representative of the PRCR Department. If you ever met Danny, then you know what I mean. Always wearing a smile and demonstrating a willingness to help those in need, he has an unfailing ability to brighten your day.
Among the things I appreciate about Danny is his willingness to mentor our younger staff. I also appreciate the initiative he showed by earning his Turf & Ornamental Certification online through the University of Georgia. By successfully completing this course, Danny gained a better understanding of ways we can take even better care of the grounds within our parks system.
Danny's last day will be Sunday, April 30 - following our Six Sundays in Spring concert. For his invaluable contributions to our department, I want to take the opportunity to say "thank you" Danny. Thank you for your wonderful contributions to the Town and the PRCR Department.
Thank you also for being such a great friend. I wish you only good things. May your travels be safe and your days full of joy.
