COUNCIL MEMBER YDANIS RODRIGUEZ & BLACK CAR DRIVERS TO RALLY IN SUPPORT OF IN-APP TIPPING OPTION PRIOR TO HEARING ON COUNCIL BILL
New York, NY -- On Thursday, June 22nd, Council Member Rodriguez will rally with dozens of Black Car drivers on the steps of City Hall to support legislation requiring an in-app tipping option and to celebrate Uber's announcement to implement this policy. The drivers, represented by the Independent Drivers Guild, an arm of the Machinists Union (IAMAW Local 15), will issue their support for the measure to be codified in law, beyond recently announced the policy change.
Following the rally, the Council Transportation Committee will hear this bill,
Intro 1656, as well as legislation introduced today to protect pedestrians from terrorist attacks using vehicles. The bill,
Intro 1658, has received widespread support from Council Member Rodriguez's colleagues, particularly after the car attack in Times Square just over one month ago and two subsequent terror attacks in London using vehicles as weapons. The bill, announced last week, would require the installation of fortified bollards to protect sidewalks from cars jumping the curb to hit pedestrians.
What: Rally to Support In-App Tipping Option for Black Car Drivers, followed by hearing on tipping and sidewalk bollard protections
When: June 22nd, 10:00 AM Rally, 11:00 AM Hearing
Where: Steps of City Hall (rally), Council Chambers (hearing)
