COALITION OF DISABILITY ADVOCATES, TRANSPORTATION ORGANIZATIONS & ELECTED OFFICIALS KICK OFF 2018 "RIDERS RESPOND TRANSIT TOUR" TO ASSESS SUBWAY DIRECTLY FROM RIDERS

Full Tour Details

New York, NY- Council Member Rodriguez, elected officials and advocates kick-off the Second Annual 24-Hour #RidersRespondTransitTour. More than a year after Governor Cuomo declared the MTA under a state of emergency, city & state officials, mass transit, and disability advocates are returning to the subway platforms to hear from riders, commuters and visitors.

The coalition hopes to receive opinions and comments from subway commuters focusing on issues of accessibility, equity in public transit services, and the overall satisfaction of subway rides. Elected officials and advocates will ride station to station to survey riders and assess the state of the system's infrastructure. Last year, nearly 2,000-subway riders provided insight on their daily commutes and with their feedback the NYC Council Transportation Committee presented the data to MTA. This year we will be able to assess the progress from last year's inaugural tour. The results of the 2018 tour will be released prior to the NYC Council Transportation Committee Hearing on the MTA Fast Forward Plan, scheduled for later this month. The full tour route can be found below.

Council Member Rodriguez will join other elected officials, disability and transportation advocates at a kickoff press conference prior to boarding the subway at the Van Cortlandt Park/242nd St. Station on Wednesday, October 3 at 7:00 AM, outside the station at the corner of 242nd St. and Broadway.

This station has been plagued by the ongoing issue of offering no options of  accessibility for people living with disabilities, in the midst of the MTA upgrading and renovating subway stations.
