UPTOWN ELECTED OFFICIALS TO CALL FOR THE IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES & ALLIES TO TURNOUT BIG IN TOMORROW'S PRIMARY ELECTIONS

Today at 2:00pm in front of Holy Rood Church in Washington Heights, Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez, U.S. Congressman Adriano Espaillat, Assemblywoman Carmen De La Rosa and NYS Senator Marisol Alcantara will join fellow elected officials in calling for immigrants and their allies to turnout big in tomorrow's NYC primary elections, in order to be a voice for those unable to cast a ballot.
Given the tumultuous start to the Trump presidency, where immigrants have been targeted with ICE raids and deportation, where enrollees in the DACA program have had their legal status thrown into flux, and where immigrants who have been living in the states peacefully for decades, working and starting families are now threatened with deportation, the need to show strength as a community is great.
The group will stand in front of the church providing sanctuary to Amanda Morales-Guerra, a Guatemalan immigrant and mother of three young US citizens, who was recently slated for deportation by ICE but who refused to comply for fear of being separated from her children.
They will call for as many immigrants and allies of immigrants to vote as possible, regardless of what candidate they choose, in order to send a message of the strength of the immigrant vote in NYC, a city whose history is largely reliant on the contributions of immigrants.

- Hoy a las 2:00pm frente a la iglesia Santa Cruz (Holyrood) en Washington Heights, el Concejal Ydanis Rodríguez, el Congresista Adriano Espaillat, la asambleísta Carmen De La Rosa y la Senadora Marisol Alcantara se unirán a otros funcionarios electos para llamar a las comunidades inmigrantes a la participación grande en las elecciones primarias de mañana de NYC, para servir como una voz para ésas personas que no pueden votar.
Dado el inicio tumultuoso de la presidencia de Trump, donde los inmigrantes han sido blanco de incursiones de ICE y deportación, donde los inscritos en el programa DACA han tenido su estatus legal arrojado en el suelo, y donde los inmigrantes que han estado viviendo en los estados pacíficamente durante décadas, y las familias que comienzan ahora están amenazadas con la deportación, la necesidad de demostrar la fuerza como comunidad es más importante ahora que nunca.
El grupo se situará frente a la iglesia que provee santuario a Amanda Morales-Guerra, una inmigrante guatemalteca y madre de tres jóvenes ciudadanos estadounidenses, que fue recientemente declarada para ser deportada por ICE pero que se negó a cumplir por temor a ser separada de sus hijos.
Llamarán a tantas las comunidades inmigrantes y los que apoyan la lucha a que voten como sea posible, independientemente del candidato que elijan, para enviar un mensaje de la fuerza del voto de inmigrantes en Nueva York, una ciudad cuya historia depende en gran medida de las contribuciones de inmigrantes.
