Midland Co. to hold Topping Out ceremony for new annex

New courthouse annex will serve multiple courts, county offices

MIDLAND COUNTY, Texas - Members of the media are invited attend a “topping out” ceremony for the new Courthouse Annex on Friday, August 15, at 10:30 a.m. at the construction site, 301 S. Main Street.

A “topping out” ceremony is a milestone in the construction process, when when the last beam is placed atop a structure, signifying the completion of its framework.

The new 55,000-square-foot facility will house the offices and courtrooms for Midland County’s Justice of the Peace judges, along with all four constables, the Warrants Division, and the medical examiner. These departments are currently located in multiple buildings throughout the county. Consolidating them into one location will provide convenience for residents and generate cost savings for taxpayers.

Construction of the annex is being funded entirely with cash from the County’s fund balance — no bonds or borrowing are required. The annex is on schedule to open for business in September of 2026. The building is located across the street from one of the current JP courts and the county jail.

Hard hats and safety vests will be provided for those entering active construction areas.
