ARLINGTON, VA - Today, volunteers from local businesses and organizations came together for the 26th Annual Arlington Chamber Volunteer Day, sponsored by Amazon. Produced each year by the Arlington Chamber of Commerce's Community Action Committee, this day of service provides an opportunity for nonprofits to develop relationships with Arlington businesses, and for businesses to give back to the community.
The event began with a volunteer celebration and kickoff lunch hosted by the Crystal City Sports Pub. Following the kickoff, volunteers visited project sites throughout Arlington, supporting 14 local nonprofit organizations.
Projects ranged from cleaning and organizing sites, to making beds for dogs and cats in animal shelters, to painting classrooms, and much more.
"Volunteers are integral in helping us achieve our respective missions," said Chamber Community Action Chair Jennifer Davies of the Animal Welfare League of Arlington, to project volunteers at the kickoff. "It is my hope today that you make a connection with the organizations that you are working with, and make today the start of a lasting relationship."
"Our members step up each year with enthusiasm and heart, eager to give back and make a difference," said Arlington Chamber President & CEO Kate Bates. "Over the past 26 years, this event has led to meaningful and lasting partnerships between businesses and nonprofits, strengthening our local nonprofit sector and enriching the Arlington community."
In addition to these projects, the Chamber offered free one-on-one financial counseling sessions with member financial advisors to individuals who have been impacted by recent federal government reductions, or are concerned that they may be affected. "It's one more way our businesses are stepping up to meet the evolving needs of our community," said Bates.
