APAP announces nominees for 2022 APAP Awards
The APAP Honors to celebrate the performing arts workforce on May 24.
Online event will also recognize Halsey and Alice North Award recipient Susie Farr, NAPAMA awardees, and inaugural CIPA Award honoree.

(Washington, DC) May 6, 2022 – The Association of Performing Arts Professionals (APAP) announced today the nominees for its APAP Awards. APAP will recognize the nominees and announce the final award recipients at The APAP Honors, as well as celebrate the recipients of the Annual NAPAMA Award, the Halsey and Alice North Award for APAP Board Alumni, and for the first time, an award from the Creative & Independent Producer Alliance (CIPA).

Having first moved online in 2021 due to the pandemic, The APAP Honors, a virtual ceremony, will take place on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. (EDT). The event is free (suggested donation) and open-to-the-public. Contributions to support APAP’s programs and services to the performing arts are welcome.

APAP President and CEO Lisa Richards Toney explains the significance of holding this event and celebrating performing arts professionals at this unique time when the performing arts landscape is both recovering and shifting. “The performing arts industry has endured so much over the past two-plus years. For many, it’s been a long road to recovery, and we’re still on that journey. While we are excited to recognize our award nominees and awardees for their excellence and contribution, we are also taking this moment---this celebration---to raise up all arts workers, both those on stage and behind the scenes.”

“Core to our mission at APAP is to create a welcoming and supportive space for performing arts professionals from across the country and to cultivate careers and make the business of the arts happen.” She continues, “But now we must do more than that. In this time of the pandemic, the racial reckoning and the great resignation, we must demonstrate radical care for our workforce, our arts workers. Our people are the backbone of our industry, and we are worth it.”

For decades, the coveted APAP Awards have been presented at the annual APAP|NYC conference in January. The now-named The APAP Honors event celebrates those individuals and organizations that have demonstrated a significant impact on the industry and communities they serve both in the U.S. and abroad.

Thirty-one performing arts professionals and organizations were nominated by APAP members for awards and represent the breadth and depth of the performing arts presenting, booking and touring field at this moment.

“For the second year now, we are choosing to lift up and honor the magnanimity of the performing arts field by celebrating all of our nominees and featuring as many as possible during the awards program itself,” explains Richards Toney.

Richards Toney invites all arts workers to attend the event in celebration of the nominees, awardees, and the many diverse arts professionals and organizations who are part of the cultural ecosystem that is APAP’s very mission to support.
