ARLINGTON, VA - On Friday April 24, volunteers from local businesses and organizations came together for the 27th Annual Arlington Chamber Volunteer Day, sponsored by Amazon. Produced each year by the Arlington Chamber of Commerce's Community Action Committee, this day of service provides an opportunity for nonprofits to develop relationships with Arlington businesses, and for businesses to give back to the community.
The event began with a celebratory kickoff and lunch hosted by the Crystal City Sports Pub, bringing volunteers together before fanning out to project sites across the county.
At the kickoff, Arlington Chamber President & CEO Kate Bates urged volunteers to take time to truly get to know the nonprofits they were visiting, so they could leave the project not just as one-day contributors, but also informed advocates for those organizations.
Following the kickoff, the more than 160 volunteers participated in a project hosted by one of 16 nonprofit organizations:
Through hands-on projects that left lasting improvements at nonprofits across Arlington, Volunteer Day demonstrates the tangible difference local businesses can make when they invest in their community. The Community Action Committee raises the business community’s awareness of nonprofit organizations and their needs by connecting the business community with the Chamber’s more than 100 nonprofit members.
