(Millbrook, NY) – Cornell Cooperative Extension Dutchess County (CCEDC) is proud to announce that its Executive Director, Mary Lou Carolan, has been appointed to the Dutchess County Agriculture and Farmland Protection Board (AFPB) as a representative from CCEDC. This appointment is effective immediately and will run concurrent with her leadership role at CCEDC, according to the appointment notice from William G. Truitt, Chairperson of the Dutchess County Legislature.
The AFPB serves a critical role in advising the Dutchess County Legislature on matters affecting agriculture and farmland preservation throughout the county. Ms. Carolan’s extensive experience in research education and community development will bring valuable insight into the Board’s mission. Her willingness to serve in this capacity underscores CCEDC’s commitment to fostering a thriving agricultural industry in Dutchess County.

The Dutchess County Agriculture and Farmland Protection Board is currently focused on implementing its comprehensive Agriculture and Farmland Protection Plan.
This plan outlines five key initiatives aimed at bolstering the county’s agricultural sector:
-Coordination and Collaboration through an Agricultural Navigator and Agricultural Advisory Committee
-Agricultural Economic Development and a Business Retention & Expansion Program
-Farmland Preservation
-Farm-Friendly Regulation
-Marketing, Public Relations, and Awareness
Through these initiatives, the AFPB seeks to strengthen local farming operations, preserve valuable farmland, and promote agricultural sustainability in Dutchess County.
CCEDC continues to provide diverse programming and expertise throughout Dutchess County, including administering the Mid-Hudson Clean Energy Hub, Dutchess County 4-H, Taste NY at Todd Hill, Dutchess County Master Gardeners, Green Teen in Beacon and Poughkeepsie, No Child Left Inside (NCLI) Dutchess, and the Relatives and Parents Program (RAPP). In addition, CCEDC offers a variety of relevant programs focusing on agriculture, horticulture, youth and families, environment and energy, financial literacy, and nutrition.
