WASHINGTON D.C. – Ferguson Lumber Corporation of Veedersburg, Indiana has been named the 2026 Independent ProDealer of the Year by the National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association and HBSDealer magazine. A team of about 40, Ferguson Lumber was founded in 1868 as a sawmill and has survived two major destructive fires by adapting to its community’s needs. The company has become stronger through multiple relocations and the introduction of hardware stores, as there are only two west of Indianapolis.
The Veedersburg site is vital as an LBM dealer in western Indiana. Its newest hardware-focused location is in Coatesville, Indiana, featuring a cutting-edge design, the result of close collaboration with Do it Best. The store opened in early 2026.
Owner Joe Collings, a former chairman of the National Lumber & Building Material Dealers Association, said that the award came as a surprise and an honor.
“It’s a people business,” Collings said. “And even more than that, it’s about teamwork. It’s about relying on everyone around you. Our attitude here is: ‘How do we do it? And let’s put a program together and make it happen.”
“I’ve known Joe Collings and the family at Ferguson Lumber for nearly 25 years, and not only are they top of their game in the business, they go the extra miles consistently to support charity, community, and the associations of MBSA and NLBMDA,” said Timothy Murphy, CEO of the Midwest Building Suppliers Association. “They have undoubtedly made a huge difference in the industry as well as the populations they serve.”
“We are proud to recognize Ferguson Lumber for its outstanding achievements and enduring contributions to the lumber and building materials industry. Carrying forward a 158-year Ferguson and Collings family legacy, their company continues to set a high standard for excellence," said Jonathan Paine, NLBMDA President & CEO. "Ferguson Lumber exemplifies strong business performance, a commitment to organizational excellence and best practices, dedication to customer and community service, and leadership as an ambassador for the lumber and building materials industry."
Ferguson Lumber will accept the Independent ProDealer of the Year award at the 2026 ProDealer Industry Summit in Chicago, Oct. 5-7. The event, hosted jointly by NLBMDA and HBSDealer, provides an educational forum designed to promote the growth of lumber and building product dealers, distributors, wholesalers, and manufacturers.
Past winners of the Independent ProDealer of the Year award include B&B Lumber of Kansas (2025); Short & Paulk Supply of Georgia (2024); Minnesota’s Hilltop Lumber (2023), Espy Lumber in South Carolina (2022) and Dakota County Lumber Co. in Minnesota (2022).
