Her Excellency Dr.Faida Mitifu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) will participate and be honored at WETATi International Women's Convention. The convention will take place at the University of Maryland campus, in College Park, Maryland and in partnership with University of Maryland College on March 26 - 29, 2015.
Ambassador Mitifu, is a Career diplomat, and one of the longest serving Ambassadors within the Diplomatic Corp in Washington DC. She is also the Chairperson of the African Ambassadors Group. Ambassador Mitifu has testified before the U.S. Congress on the resolution of the crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo, and in Africa's Great Lakes region.
Ambassador Mitifu has greatly strengthened U.S. - DRC relations with her diplomatic savvy and candor culminating with the first Presidential visit abroad for the New DRC President less than a week after taking her oath of office.
A very eloquent and dexterous public speaker, who has canvassed and lobbied a lot of investors facilitating one of the multi-billion dollar acquisitions by one of the U.S.'s largest copper and cobalt producers in the world.
She organized visits for DRC's entrepreneurs to the US to boast networking and contacts with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the private sector. She works with a plethora of Congolese grass roots organizations and NGO's to combat gender violence, the enhancement of women participating
in economic and political processes with focus on Human rights, environment, health and good governance.
Ambassador Mitifu has been very instrumental in lobbying the U.S. Congress to increase development assistance to DRC and also strengthening the boarder and security reform thereby uplifting the economic sanctions like the Brooks Amendment against DRC. She is the architect for DRC's eligibility to the Africa Growth and opportunity Act (AGOA) and to cancel DRC's bilateral and multilateral debts. The first AGOA conference in Kinshasa was organized by her in partnership with the corporate council on Africa. Through the AGOA conference, Congolese businesses and entrepreneurs were given incentives and educated on ways to export goods duty free and quota free to the United States.
Ambassador Mitifu has spoken at various platforms; the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, the University of Connecticut, Auburn University, UCLA , the Center for Strategic and International Studies; Search for Common Ground's Great Lakes Policy Forum; the Brookings, the Ambassador Series on Capitol Hill; World Affairs Council (on issues ranging from conflict resolution, international development, economic empowerment, good governance, democracy and transparency). She has granted audiences and interviews to many radio and TV stations such as Voice of America (VOA), CNN, PBS, SABC, NPR, Pacific Radio and news papers like the Washington Post, Washington Times, L A Times, EIR and many more.
With the above impeccable track record of stewardship and service demonstrated through the career path of Ambassador Dr. Faida Mitifu, WETATi has the honor to confer upon her the Distinguished Diplomatic Service Award 2015.
