Hippodrome Theatre Announces Staged Reading Series

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Hipp Unplugged: A Staged Reading Series will make its debut on the Hippodrome second stage on September 9. This series aims to bring Gainesville more great theater that is challenging, gives voice to underserved playwrights, and provides our company and artistic community a place to come together and grow.

“The Hipp Unplugged reading series is a chance for the Hippodrome to explore stories we haven’t been able to put on our Mainstage,” said Artistic Director, Stephanie Lynge. “We can take chances and explore topics that are more challenging.

The series will feature a two-day showing of a new unique work of theater each month for the next year. The first piece in this series will be White by James Ijames, directed by Hipp company member, Ryan George.

“We have wanted an artistic project where we can call upon the Gainesville theatrical community to participate as well as give our Company a space to challenge themselves as well as our audiences,” Lynge said.

Look forward to plays written by Company members Charlie Mitchell and Candace Clift, some of your favorite actors like Gregg Jones, Matt Lindsay, Malcom Getz, and many more! There will be a talkback after every performance with the director and cast to discuss the works performed.

As part of our Breaking Boundaries theme, join us for Hipp Unplugged as we explore our world and our humanity.
