LOSFA staffer earns credential from National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators
Brittani Williams second in state to earn Administrative Capability credential

Baton Rouge - Ask Brittani Williams what she’s passionate about, and she’ll likely give you three answers: her faith, her family and financial aid.

Williams has worked in the financial aid field for 11 years. She started as a student worker at the University of Louisiana at Monroe and most recently, a Financial Aid Specialist at LSU.

At the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA), she is the financial aid specialist. She operates the agency's Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA) website portal which tracks FAFSA completion rates for schools around the state, trains staff on the financial aid processes, and assists with FAFSA completion. Recently, she was selected by Dr. Sujuan Boutte, executive director of LOSFA, to be part of a three-person team to create a new financial literacy program for post-secondary partners.

As a mother of three boys, she understands education is the key.

Many nights while Williams studied to earn her Masters in Higher Education Administration from LSU, her children sat with her as she helped with their homework. She tries to take them on weekly trips to the library or bookstore. Right now, they are working on their Dr. Seuss collection.

So it should come as no surprise that when she had the opportunity to increase her knowledge, her only question was where to sign up.

In October, Williams completed the Administrative Capability credential course offered by the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA).

“I took this course so I could gain knowledge and be able to assist our post-secondary partners to ensure financial aid counselors are capable of counseling students," Williams said, adding, "I get to see the complete picture. Working at LOSFA, I help guide students through the college process and with the financial aid counselors I'm making sure they know how to utilize their funding. My goal, our goal, is to see the students succeed."

The credential qualifies her to teach how to administer Title IV funds and/or how institutions can begin to disburse funds on their campuses. Her mastery level score earned her honor roll.

She is the second person in the State of Louisiana to earn this credential.

“By earning this credential, I was able to facilitate a session composed of mostly financial aid directors – helping them gain knowledge and become greater assets to their offices."

College access and success are where she wants to make a difference, so she’s already planning out what she needs to learn next. The way she sees it, her job isn’t just a paid position. Her job is a valuable step for students on the stairway to success.
