NLBMDA Expands Strategic Partnerships, Joining Four New Coalitions

Washington, D.C. – The National Lumber and Building Material Dealers Association (NLBMDA) today announced it has joined four new coalitions, further strengthening its federal advocacy efforts in Washington. These partnerships build on NLBMDA’s independent advocacy by amplifying the voice of the lumber and building materials (LBM) industry in the forums where policy is developed, debated, and advanced.

With these additions, NLBMDA now participates in more than a dozen coalitions spanning key policy priorities. This includes longstanding engagement with the Merchant Payments Coalition, where NLBMDA advocates for credit card swipe fee reform, and the ACTION Campaign, a network of more than 2,200 organizations working to expand the supply of affordable housing nationwide. Together, these partnerships enhance NLBMDA’s ability to advance pro-growth policies that support dealers, strengthen supply chains, and improve housing affordability.

1. Neighborhood Homes Coalition

With more than 40 national organizations participating, the Neighborhood Homes Coalition is a national advocacy group supporting the enactment of the Neighborhood Homes Investment Act, an NLBMDA-backed bill that NLBMDA members advocated for at our 2026 Spring Meeting & Legislative Conference. The bipartisan legislation would establish a flexible, efficient tax credit that would cover a portion of the development or rehabilitation costs of single-family homes. Over a 10-year period, the legislation would support the development of more than 500,000 homes, generate $151B in development activity, and support over 1 million jobs throughout the U.S. economy. The Neighborhood Homes Coalition drives awareness for the legislation through coordinated policy briefings, fly-ins, and other advocacy events.

2. Up for Growth

This year NLBMDA has also joined Up for Growth, a national coalition focused on advancing policies that increase housing supply and improve affordability across the United States. Up for Growth is the only U.S. organization singularly focused on leading federal legislation to eliminate barriers and increase resources for housing production. Through research, coalition-building, and advocacy, the coalition works to address housing underproduction by promoting reforms to zoning, land use, and development practices at the federal, state, and local levels. It brings together industry leaders, policymakers, and advocates to advance solutions that improve housing attainability across communities. NLBMDA’s participation strengthens its ongoing advocacy for policies that increase housing supply and affordability nationwide, particularly as Congress continues to consider comprehensive federal housing legislation, including the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act.

3. Critical Labor Coalition

For LBM dealers and the broader construction sector, persistent labor shortages continue to delay projects, constrain operations, and create uncertainty in materials demand across the building supply chain. These challenges were a central focus during NLBMDA’s 2026 Spring Meeting and Legislative Conference, where members met with congressional offices to advocate for workforce development solutions, including support for the CONSTRUCTS Act of 2025 to expand residential construction training programs and strengthen the pipeline of skilled workers. To strengthen our advocacy efforts in this area, NLBMDA has also joined the Critical Labor Coalition, formed in 2022 to address the nation’s labor shortage through legislative advocacy, education, and outreach. The coalition’s focus on reauthorizing the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and strengthening apprenticeship and training programs closely aligns with NLBMDA’s workforce priorities, particularly as workforce projections indicate the construction industry will require substantial increases in skilled labor in the coming years.

4.  U.S. Chamber of Commerce

NLBMDA has rejoined the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the world’s largest business organization representing companies of all sizes and sectors across the country. The Chamber brings together small businesses, local chambers, national associations, and global companies to advance policies that support economic growth, job creation, and a competitive business environment. Through its advocacy, research, and convening power, the Chamber provides members with policy analysis, legal insights, and opportunities to engage directly with business and government leaders. It also serves as a leading voice for the business community on Capitol Hill, in the courts, and in state and global markets. NLBMDA’s membership further strengthens its ability to advocate for pro-growth policies that support the LBM industry and the broader economy. Additionally, membership with the Chamber gives NLBMDA access to a network of speakers and policy experts who can contribute to NLBMDA events and programming throughout the year.

Together, these new partnerships position NLBMDA to further elevate the voice of LBM dealers as Congress and federal agencies consider policies impacting housing supply, workforce development, and the broader business environment. By working in coalition with aligned organizations, NLBMDA is better equipped to advance practical, pro-growth solutions that reflect the real-world experiences of dealers across the country. As advocacy efforts continue throughout the year, NLBMDA remains committed to ensuring its members are represented in the policymaking process and that the industry’s priorities are reflected in legislative and regulatory outcomes.
