Walpole, NH (February 25, 2022) – The Cheshire County Conservation District (CCCD) continues efforts to support best forestry management practices, as well as water and wildlife protection through their Skidder Bridge Initiative.
A skidder bridge is a portable structure that can be used to pass streams. Skidder bridge's are easy to install and require little maintenance. They support sustainable forestry practices, as they cause less stream bed and bank disturbance, minimize soil erosion, allow for fish passage, and avoid restricting flow of water!
CCCD is selling their newly built skidder bridge constructed by Long View Forest of Westminster, VT. The CCCD purchased all the materials for the build and Long View Forest generously donated the time of their staff to construct the three panels that make up the skidder bridge. Long View is a company that offers a complete range of services which focus on forest management, woodland services, and contracting to forest owners interested in an active approach to caring for their land. Much like CCCD, Long View is a company that values good stewardship and management of natural resources.
The bridge is being sold for $2,800 and is based on Heavy Duty Design. The bridge is made up of three panels that are 4x20 each’. The timber’s size is 6”x10”x20 and is made from Hemlock. Transportation of the skidder bridge is the responsibility of the buyer. All proceeds of the sale directly support CCCD's conservation programs in the Monadnock Region.
The Cheshire County Conservation District promotes the conservation and responsible use of our natural and agricultural resources for the people of Cheshire County by providing technical, financial, and educational assistance. Our goal is to encourage the stewardship of healthy soils, productive ecologically sound farms, diverse wildlife, productive sustainable forests, healthy watersheds, and clean water to ensure those resources are available for future generations. Established in 1945, the Conservation District operates out of Walpole, NH where we work alongside the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and other conservation partners.
