NEW YORK REMEMBERS THE 265 victims of flight 587, 17 YEARS LATER
New York, NY--Today, November 12, 2018, New York remembers and honors the lives lost on Flight 587 and their affected families on the 17th Anniversary of this fateful tragedy.
On the morning of November 12, 2001, American Airlines Flight 587 bound to the Dominican Republic crashed into Belle Harbor, Queens, near JFK International Airport. All 265 victims, that included 251 passengers, 9 crewmembers, and 5 people on the ground perished in this terrible tragedy. Most of them were Dominicans and Dominican-Americans. This is the second deadliest plane crash in the United States aviation history, and many residents in my district in Washington Heights know someone that was a passenger on Flight 587.
Last year, in remembrance of the horrific accident of American Airlines Flight 587, the City of New York honored the victims of the plane crash with a street co-naming of the northwest corner of W. 181 Street and Amsterdam Avenue as "Flight 587 Way." This homage will forever honor the lives and memory of the 265 victims of this tragic accident.

NUEVA YORK RECUERDA LAS 265 VÍCTIMAS DEL VUELO 587, 17 AÑOS DESPUÉS
Nueva York, NY-- Hoy, 12 de Noviembre del 2018, Nueva York recuerda y honra las vidas que se perdieron en el Vuelo 587 y las familias afectadas, en el 17 aniversario de esta funesta tragedia.
En la mañana del 12 de Noviembre de 2001, el Vuelo 587 de American Airlines con destino a la República Dominicana se estrelló en Belle Harbor, Queens, cerca del Aeropuerto Internacional JFK. Las 265 víctimas en total, que incluyeron 251 pasajeros, 9 miembros de la tripulación y 5 personas en tierra perecieron en esta terrible tragedia. La mayoria de ellos eran Dominicanos y Dominico-Americanos. Este es el segundo accidente aéreo más letal en la historia de la aviación de los Estados Unidos, y muchos residentes de mi distrito en Washington Heights conocen a alguien que fue un pasajero del Vuelo 587.
El año pasado, en conmemoración del horrible accidente del Vuelo 587 de American Airlines, la Ciudad de Nueva York honró a las víctimas del accidente aéreo con un nombre de calle de la esquina noroeste de la calle W. 181 y la avenida Amsterdam como "Vuelo 587". Este homenaje honrará por siempre la vida y la memoria de las 265 víctimas de este trágico accidente.
