Sullivan Renaissance Announces Silver Feather Community Impact Grant Award

$200,000 Silver Feather Grant Awarded to the
Town of Mamakating
[Village of Bloomingburg] – Sullivan Renaissance announced that the Town of Mamakating was awarded the Silver Feather Community Impact Grant for its redevelopment of the historic Dutch Reformed Church in Bloomingburg. The Town was awarded a $125,000 state grant secured and presented by Senator Jen Metzger and a $50,000 Sullivan Renaissance grant presented by Sandra Gerry Founder and Chairwoman of Sullivan Renaissance. The Town’s in-kind contribution is $25,000 for a total Grant package of $200,000.

The Dutch Reformed Church dates back to 1821 and is one of the oldest churches in Sullivan County. The Church is listed on the National Register of Historic Structures. In 2018 the community successfully launched a campaign to prevent the Town from selling the church and keeping it as a community space.

“As a long-time supporter of Sullivan Renaissance, I am honored to accept the Silver Feather Award for the Town of Mamakating. This award will allow the Town to repair and preserve the historic Bloomingburg Dutch Reformed Church that will celebrate its 200th Anniversary in 2021. The Bloomingburg Restoration Foundation and community members have cared for this structure for the last 40 years. This award will help to preserve the building’s integrity and keep it a viable resource for all of the community. Many thanks to Sullivan Renaissance, our Town employees and our community volunteers.” Said Mamakating Supervisor Janet Lybolt

“I couldn't be more thrilled to partner with Sullivan Renaissance in awarding this grant to the Town of Mamakating to renovate the historic Dutch Reformed Church, a building with such immense historical value to the Town and Village, and a true community treasure. Caring for this building has been a labor of love of the Bloomingburg Restoration Foundation and fellow community members for decades, but coming up with the resources to make the necessary improvements is challenging for a small community. This grant will enable the Town to make much-needed renovations as we look to celebrate the church's 200th anniversary next year, and will help preserve this historical building for generations to come.” Said Senator Jen Metzger (SD-42)

Sullivan Renaissance is a beautification and community development program principally funded by the Gerry Foundation with support from Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther, Senator Jen Metzger, Bold Gold Media Group, The River Reporter, The Sullivan County Democrat, and Thompson Sanitation. For information, contact 845-295-2445 or SullivanRenaissance.org.
