Mount Clemens, MI - Today, two Macomb County Sheriff Deputies were arraigned in connection with an altercation from taking a juvenile into custody.
On August 30, 2023, Macomb County Sheriff Deputy’s Derek Reed and Alan Weir were assigned to bring a juvenile to the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center for a probation violation. It is alleged that while taking the juvenile into custody, Deputy Reed slapped the juvenile.
Deputy Derek Reed is charged with Child Abuse in the Fourth Degree (one-year misdemeanor) and Public Official Willful Failure to Uphold the Law (one-year misdemeanor). Deputy Alan Weir is charged with Willful Neglect of Duty (one-year misdemeanor).
Both men were arraigned in New Baltimore District Court where Judge William Hackel III set bond at $100 personal bond with bond conditions to have no contact with the victim. A pretrial is scheduled for Monday, October 30, 2023 at 1:30 pm for both men.
“While we recognize the challenging situations law enforcement officers often face, it is our firm commitment to ensure that the boundaries of justice and restraint are never crossed. We must hold those entrusted with upholding the law to the highest standard," said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
