Regional Leaders to Discuss Hampton Roads' Workforce Analysis and Hurricane Matthew Debrief
Chesapeake, VA - City and County leaders from the 17 jurisdictions that comprise the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission (HRPDC) will be briefed on the State of the Regional Workforce and a debrief on Hurricane Matthew and preparations for the 2017 Hurricane Season. The meeting will take place at 12:30pm, Thursday, May 18, 2017 in the Regional Board Room at 723 Woodlake Drive in Chesapeake.  A brief summary of these agenda topics follows:

State of the Workforce and Gap Analysis

Mr. James and Mr. Avery will provide a brief overview of the recently completed report, The Hampton Roads State of the Workforce and Gap Analysis. The report analyzes the economic and business activities of the key industries operating in the Hampton Roads region and provides an assessment of the labor force available to support these industries.        

Hurricane Matthew Debrief and Preparations for the Upcoming 2017 Hurricane Season

With the start of the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season nearing (June 1), Mr. Porner and Mr. Sterling will provide two informational presentations. Mr. Porner will summarize the events leading up to and following Hurricane Matthew. That storm resulted in over $75 million in damages throughout the Hampton Roads region. Mr. Sterling will summarize VDEM's ongoing efforts and those of the Virginia Hurricane Evacuation Working Group to delineate evacuation zones within the region.
