PRISMA Academy In Vancouver

PRISMA Students Rehearse For The Path Forward

Under this year’s expanded model, PRISMA students are spending three days in Vancouver (June 13-15), immersed in expertise alongside artists from the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and VSO School of Music, before travelling to rural Powell River.

PRISMA students had their inaugural rehearsal as the PRISMA Festival Orchestra at the Orpheum Theatre on June 13 with Maestro Arthur Arnold.

Fourteen students were invited into the VSO as guest musicians for the day. This coveted hands-on learning experience culminated in a performance at the Orpheum Theatre as part of The Path Forward.

Reflecting on The Path Forward: A Celebration of Indigenous Culture and Music

Last night, 14 of our PRISMA students and maestro Arthur Arnold shared an unforgettable experience on stage at the Orpheum Theatre with our dear friends of the Tla'amin Nation and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Three compositions by Drew Blaney were performed with orchestral accompaniment as part of The Path Forward – a free community concert curated by the VSO Indigenous Council in honour of National Indigenous People's Day. This unique collaboration bridged cultures and generations, showcasing traditional Indigenous music from Coast Salish territories alongside contemporary interpretations.

Hearing the ʔayʔaǰuθəm (Ayajuthem) language reverberate proudly throughout the Orpheum was something our staff and other students in attendance will never forget. We were truly honoured to be cheering from the audience. A special thank you to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and VSO Indigenous Council for welcoming us and to the SOCAN Foundation - Fondation SOCAN for supporting PRISMA's preparations for this event.

The concert was live-streamed worldwide and is available to watch on the VSO YouTube channel

PRISMA Academy Expansion

This morning PRISMA Academy Students were at the UBC Old Auditorium for another orchestra rehearsal. Tomorrow morning they will return again for more rehearsal.

This afternoon PRISMA Academy Students went to the UBC School of Music with teachers from the VSO School of Music – part of our educational collaboration with the VSO.
