New Guest Artist:
Jasper Wood, Violin

"As an added gift, violinist Jasper Wood played ... with a gorgeous sound and brilliant control of his instrument.  Wood sounded like an entire violin section unto himself."
-Halifax Chronicle Herald

Canadian violinist Jasper Wood has performed with many of North America's finest orchestras, in cities such as Toronto, Montreal, Winnipeg, Buffalo, and throughout Europe.  He has performed under the batons of Gregory Novak, George Cleve, Georg Tintner, Bramwell Tovey, and Miguel Harth-Bedoya. Jasper has also garnered acclaim for his performances as a recitalist and chamber musician, having taken him to major cities worldwide in venues such as Dame Myra Hess (Chicago), Carnegie Weill Recital Hall (New York) and the Toronto Centre for the Performing Arts.

Jasper has been equally committed to performing in Canada's smaller communities, such as the Northwest Territories and other parts of northern Canada.

Jasper performs with guitarist Daniel Bolshoy in Duo Rendezvous, and  with pianist David Jalbert and cellist Yegor Dyachkov  in Triple Forte.  He also performs frequently with pianist David Riley, with whom he has performed for twenty years and collaborated on multiple recordings.  Jasper's CD project in 2013 includes a recording of the works of American composer Mathew Fuerst.  Education and outreach has always been important to Jasper, and as such, he regularly visits schools and gives masterclasses.

Jasper Wood resides in Vancouver with his wife, Grace, and two children, where he is Associate Professor of violin and chamber music at the University of British Columbia.

Jasper Wood plays a 1914 Stefano Scarampella violin.
Volunteer Recruitment:
Marketing & Communications Team Members

PRISMA is looking to fill two positions in its Marketing and Communications Committee, with one person becoming Chair of the Committee following the conclusion of PRISMA 2016. The committee has in place significant local marketing and communications initiatives and looks to develop similar initiatives outside Powell River.

Ideally, you will have a background in marketing/communications with up-to-date knowledge of marketing strategies and trends and will be able to bring to the committee practical, innovative and imaginative, out-of-the-box thinking.

If you are looking to use your marketing and communication skills for a few hours per week and are able to adhere to timelines and deadlines, then joining this committee is the right move for you.

The positions start in February and will require 1-4 hours per week.

If you're interested in applying or have any questions, send an email to Marlene Chamberlain, Volunteer Coordinator or reply to this newsletter!

Looking for other ways to join the PRISMA team?

We're also looking for volunteers to help implement a recycling program for PRISMA. Get in touch if you're interested in getting involved!
PRISMA Supporter Recognized
for Outstanding Volunteerism

Brian Balfe, PRISMA's past President, recently was nominated for and won the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award for outstanding volunteerism. You guessed it--Brian's time as a founding board member and key volunteer for PRISMA led to his recognition for his commitments to the Powell River and Courtenay/Comox communities.  The Caring Canadian Award, which was established by the former Governor General Roméo LeBlanc, recognizes individuals who volunteer their time to help others and to build a smart and caring nation.

Brian will receive the award in March in Vancouver with his family.

Stay tuned for details on the Symphony Cruise and RBC/Balfe-Somers Wealth Management's PRISMA Matinee Concert on June 18.
