Logo Connects CAP to Total Force Partner
Over the past two years, Civil Air Patrol's Marketing and Strategic Communications team has been working to better align the CAP brand as a Total Force partner. The new “Flying V” logo — launched June 30 in a message from Maj. Gen. Edward D. Phelka, national commander/CEO — tells a brand story about aviation, volunteerism, partnership, and heritage and projects a more youthful, modern, Air Force-style look.
CAP’s Board of Governors voted unanimously April 23 to adopt the new logo, which “accomplishes several things and includes some unique benefits,” said Randy Bolinger, chief of marketing and communications.
“The bottom line is, we are not the Civil Air Patrol of the 1940s, and the new corporate identity makes that obvious,” Bolinger said.

CAP Credited With 88 Saves Following Montana Wing's Response to Flash Flooding
Montana Wing aircrews flew 21 sorties in response to historic flash flooding in the south central part of the state, helping save 88 lives as credited by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center.
The flights, conducted by more than 30 wing members, supported search and rescue operations arising from the flooding, which affected several counties and eventually closed Yellowstone National Park.
| “This is unusual as we normally don’t get requests for SAR (search and rescue) support for disaster operations through the AFRCC,” said John Desmarais, CAP's director of operations. “There was a need for immediate response to help save lives, and the Montana Wing assisted with that in cooperation with other local resources.” | |

Vermont Cadets Share Rocketry with Fifth-Graders
Cadets from the Vermont Wing’s Catamount Composite Squadron recently helped make fifth-grade graduation at Maple Avenue Elementary School in Claremont, New Hampshire, an even more special occasion with an educational and entertaining model rocketry display.
“Cadets were privileged to participate — and hopefully excite — students at the school’s ‘Blast Off to Sixth Grade’ ceremony, utilizing rockets, materials and lessons from Civil Air Patrol’s STEM Kit program,” said Capt. Jennifer Gagnon, squadron commander. Gagnon called the event “a great example of how students can apply their aerospace education and basic physics to build memorable real-world displays.”
