Viva Fiesta San Antonio!

This week kicks off Fiesta in San Antonio and as a relative newcomer to the region, I look forward to participating in some Fiesta events this year! We enjoyed exchanging Fiesta medals and networking this week at our Fiesta Breakfast mixer. Stay tuned for more networking opportunities this summer.

April is APR month, and we are proud to list our members who have achieved this valuable credential. I took the APR exam in 2004 and even though it was hard, it was one of the best things I’ve accomplished in my career. I have a degree in Journalism and studying for the APR helped me have a better understanding of our industry. If you are interested in learning more about the process, contact Amy Zink, APR.

Are you ready for Del Oro? Join us as we celebrate 48 award-winners! With Randy Beamer as our Emcee, we are going to have a great night! Sponsorships are available and tickets will sell out fast, don’t delay, purchase your ticket today!

Did you know our chapter established the Marilyn Potts Memorial Scholarship Fund in 2007? Housed at the San Antonio Area Foundation, this is one of two scholarships the chapter has endowed to support San Antonio-area communications students. The fund has successfully grown and has historically funded one scholarship each year. We want to expand this by awarding two scholarships and we need your help! Please make a tax-deductible donation today. Click here to give directly on the San Antonio Area Foundation’s website and support the future of our profession!

I look forward to seeing you on May 11 at the Del Oro Awards and stay tuned for more information regarding upcoming professional development opportunities. As always, we welcome your feedback. If you have any ideas or suggestions for our Board to consider, please don’t hesitate to contact me, at terri.behling@havenforhope.org.

Until next time…

Each April, PRSA shines a special spotlight on the Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) credential. This credential sets communications, public relations and marketing professionals apart from the rest of the industry. These three letters identify you as someone who goes above and beyond to achieve exceptional results in today’s competitive world.

The APR:

  •  Asserts professional competence
  • Communicates professional expertise, plus personal and professional dedication and values
  • Reflects progressive public relations industry practices and high standards

Anyone interested in learning more about the APR – from application and candidate timeline to the Panel Presentation and the APR exam – is invited to attend the no-cost APR Nuts and Bolts Webinars being offered by PRSA. The first 45-minute session is next week, and you will have an opportunity to ask all your questions as well.

CHAPTER NEWS

April Program Recap

PRSA San Antonio members took a behind-the-scenes tour at KSAT studios this month! They were able to talk to several newsroom staff and learn some “insider secrets” on getting their organization’s information to the right people at the station. The group also watched part of the live noon newscast before enjoying lunch and a conversation with Courtney Friedman, KSAT anchor/reporter and Sean Talbot, Assistant News Director.

Thank you KSAT! This was such a great event!
